Forget the A&L £50/£100 offer, its £200 if you are clever

A&L record on your account 'who referred you', to make sure that you dont submit multiple claims.
If the person being referred already has a linked referer, they don't pay out.

When I opened my account, my house mate did too.
We opened them at the same time (a day or so difference).

When we both had our accounts open, we sent off 2 vouchers.
The first one suggested I was the existing customer and had referred him.
The 2nd one suggested He was the existing customer and had referred me.

As, when they did their checks, neither of us had a recoreded 'referer', both vouchers were honoured.
We both got £50, twice, making it a total of £200.

I'm surprised Martin doesn't mention this possibilitiy in his article.

So, to clarify...
A&L check that the person being referred doesn't already have a linked referer.
They DO NOT check that their referer isn't on their list of referred.
Quite a useful loophole, and as I said, it works.

  • How likely is it that this will backfire? I'd like to try but don't want to get stung.

It doesn't break any of their terms I don't believe, so I doubt it will backfire.
Worst case scenario: you lose the £50 each (2nd £50), but you'll still keep the original referal one.

I did it when I opened my account which was yonks ago.
Crucially though, provided you don't open the 2 accounts on the same day (leave it a day or two), you aren't breaking any of their terms. Thats why its called a 'loophole'.

I made £195 with my wife without doing this. I opened my account being referred by someone here and getting £45 of their £50 and then referring my wife...

is there a post with a list of referrers or this account?
can you join as a referrer to get £50 for yourself and new customers?
  • Right have I got this right, as there ar a few A&L threads on here and I am getting confused.

If I get someone to refer me, would both of us get £50. Then if I go on to refer somone would I get another £50? Hence I make £100 in total?

Also can i open the account, put £500 in, then take it out say 5 days later and close the account? Would I be liable for any underfunding charges etc? Is there a minimum term? and do I have to transfer all be DD from my existing current account?

    Hi supersaversarah
If someone refers you, you both get £50. Then if you refer someone else, you both also get £50 making you a total of £100.
I am not sure about rules regarding closing the account shortly afterwards. I would think there would be some safeguard in place against this. However I simply set up a direct debit from my other current account for £500 each month and left all my other direct debits on my old account. And as you can spend the whole £500 each month, but you're getting quite a high interest amount on your balance (5% on balances under £2500) there's really no need to close it at all.

All I was pointing out was the fact that you can refer the same person who referred you.
Its not something you would usually think of doing, but if you can only find 1 person to refer (as at the time, I could), and wanted to be referred by someone you knew so all the money stayed between friends, thats an option.

If you look on the referrers board people will give you up to £45 of the £50 they receive, so you can get £95 for being referred. If you then refer members of your friends and family then you get £50 per referral, as do they.

True enough, but if this loophole works, you can get £100 and still refer other people for £50 a pop. However, I doubt A&L will allow two people to refer each other as described in the OP for long, so for an extra £5 I wouldn't risk it.

Defraud A&L then tell the world on an open forum. Smart move.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc
