mouldy strawberries

okay so as it stands this is a minor problem but i'm sure happens to lots of people a lot of the time.
husband bought some strawberries from tesco yesterday evening. they looked perfectly fine - possibly even under ripe. date was display until 21st april. they went straight in the fridge.
today several are covered in mould and the rest are decidedly iffy looking.
taking them back to tesco will involve a 15 minute drive each way. i don't have the receipt either. if i wait until we would next go to tesco they will be completely mouldy.
what are your rights in this situation?
would you just let it go because it is only a couple of quid?
the problem is this sort of thing happens quite often with supermarket fresh produce i find. it's really annoying a wasteful.

This is one of the reasons I've stopped shopping at Tesco. Fed up of buying fruit, milk, meat etc well in date and then find even though it's been kept in the fridge, it's gone off before the sell by date. I would ring the store anyway and explain the situation, or even write to head office as this sort of problem seems to be common with Tesco. You've nothing to lose and they might even send you a gift voucher for a few pounds - I'd suggest you put it towards a bottle of wine rather than fresh produce though!0

called the number but the call was actually answered by an out of store customer services advisor who advised i return the goods. when i said i wouldn't be able to do that for a few days and they were going moldy she tried to put me through to the store but no answer. she recommended i call back in 15 minutes. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

I presume they say Tesco on them? If not then no reciept makes it very hard to get a refund, however if it says tesco they should give you a voucher or something to that valueAlways ask ACAS0

I agree with Equalizer.
Unfortunately Sainsburys are having the same problem and I have had to take back several punnets0 -
It's par for the course with out of season strawberries. I would end up taking them back frequently until I realised how silly I was being in buying them again.
They're used to them being returned.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Strawberries are terrible for doing this, I find I have to eat them on the day of purchase or the next day at a push otherwise they go furry way before the use by date. Even if they don't look physically mouldy they sometime get that awful earthy mouldy taste despite seeming ok on the outside.D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0

Open the packet and letting it breathe in the fridge would help.0

I just take back the lid with the receipt when I do my next shop, whether that be weeks or months later they always give refunds. This is at Sainsburys though.0

It's not strawberry season, so they won't taste right at this time of year anyway IMHO0
