Want a laugh - bathroom quote!

I am currently renovating a property and have had a nightmare time with Tradesmen. My bathroom job is as follows. There is currently only a shower upstairs. This is to be ripped out and the walls moved and a bathroom put in with wastes etc. For all the work of moving walls, doing the electrics in both rooms, skirting boards, all plumbing work etc I have been quoted £4k but £600 of that is VAT. I have a full breakdown of all work and a guarantee of 12 months. Most others have quoted £2k but only verbally and we all know what happens then! This doesnt include the bathroom suite or tiling. Take it from me, if the person has a good reputation and you know EXACTLY what is covered and the quote is written down in detail, then sometimes it is worth paying a little bit more.

I wouldn't have told them the budget. Just asked them to quote and get several other quotes too.

Thanks Redlady. That's more work than I need, and I guess would work out to around £3k for me. That would be fine....

Get it in writing though. I have just had a quote for a new front door and all the bells and whistles at £630. When I asked for a full breakdown of exactly what was included "as I wanted to decide what was and wasn't important" (yeah, of course I did!) the price dropped to £510 as for some reason he thought that it was £510 plus labour not £510 including labour! DO NOT trust anyone, no matter how nice they appear. A reputable tradesman will understand your concerns and will have no problem giving a full breakdown of what is and isnt included in the quote. It covers both parties and you know exactly what you are getting for your money.
