Will XP burn to DVD?

Have recently bought a dvd writer to use with my son's netbook but, although it will save to cd, it won't save to dvd. It is the same when I attach the writer to our home pc. I googled this problem and came across this site which states that windows xp cannot burn to dvd http://www.swfpcug.org/faq/cd&dvd.htm - can anyone confirm whether this is right please? Also want to make a recovery disc for the netbook using the backup facility in system tools but through google (again) I found an article which said Backup does not allow you to save to optical media. Is this right too?

If I have to download something, can anyone recommend a free program that allows you to also make a recovery disc please?

XP CAN burn to DVD but you have to use specific software to do so, the above softwares are fine, I personally use deepburner

LOL So XP can but you need to install third party software to allow it to do so,
When people said XP can't they mean their is no built in DVD burning software!
