Truecall - anyone got one?

Utterly sick and tired of receiving 'spam' marketing and sales calls that are displayed Withheld or International, I've just ordered a Truecall unit (should have it in a day or two).
Looks like there are a plethora of highly useful ways to set up call screening and am wondering if anyone with a Truecall unit is in the same boat as me:
In a nutshell, I want to 'block' Withheld and International calls, BUT sometimes I get calls from friends who would also show up as Withheld so I need to let them through. So am I best off setting up the unit in 'whisper' mode, ie so that Withheld callers need to announce themselves first? I don't want the phone to ring unless it's someone valid.
Or is one of the other setup options a better approach?
Thanks
Note: I'll also be using a list of blocked and accepted numbers for those that do allow their Caller ID through.

 Bumpity-bump.
I'm thinking of getting one of these as I am considering changing my landline provider to Orange which doesn't offer ACR. Has anyone found it cheaper than about £77 at Amazon? There's another (old) thread that says it is cheaper at a few sites but they seem to have stopped selling it.Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

I think I've seen some at cheaper prices on Ebay.
BTW, really impressed with the one that I bought (from Amazon) - so far no more annoying telemarketing calls! :beer:0 -

No, not tried the Internet Control Panel yet.0

I have had mine for 2 months so far not one single marketing call.
Brilliant piece of kit and very easy to setup. Tech wise its up there with my pvr for being useful technology, its a shame we have to pay to stop people pestering you
I am tempted to get the sd card answer machine facility to record calls for piece of mind to note useful information during a call
The £15 internet thing is free fora year I use it weekly to sync numbers to either setup a friend * key or # key for nuisance it rings company up automatically when I press button on the device and call is free for me with my provider, Primus0 -
My neighbour has just got one of these and asked me to set it up for him.
To be honest I wasn't impressed. I think I would go down the route of changing my number, never giving it out to companies and use called display to ignore calls from with-held numbers and those I don't recognise. Also yuo can have anonymous call reject to block with-held calls.
If people know your number, why do they with-hold theirs? if they want you theywill have to un-with-hold their number0 -
Not sure what to say other than the fact that I'm dead impressed with mine.
Yes, you could change your number, but then you'll need to go to all the hassle of notifying friends, family and companies that you deal with or have accounts with and you'll still be at the mercy of the autodiallers which simply go through all of the numbers by area.
You can ignore Withheld numbers, but for some obscure reason perfectly valid callers can withheld their numbers, such as police, doctors, hospitals, etc and friends. I know, it's daft, but there you go.
So far, Truecall has solved all of my spam phone calls problem, so here's to Truecall

I must admit I dont have any trouble with spam callers on my line.
Who are these people phoning you? Double Glazing?
I did have my surgery call me but gave the mobile for that.0 -
Changing your number will only work if you then don;t give it out willy nilly or get in phone book even then you may still get odd call
Most of the calls I got were from utilities like British Gas, Talk Talk and BT, even though I told them upteen times to remove me from there list. I left Talk talk for this reason last month they just dont accept the word 'no' senior manager even said they were out of order in so many words
I like the idea of taking control of your telephone deciding who to allow to speak to you or not without telling them to begger off (politely of course)0 -
One other thing leaving talk talk has saved me money
now with primus and my 1st bill is half of what it was previous month with talk talk
