HI just come back from one of the lodges and know where you are coming from! BUT location is the most important issue! and as planning officer says greenbelt is a no-no (having spent 5 years arguing over various extention ideas in green belt property can confirm he is correct, it is very difficult)
RE builders you are looking at a timber framed house filled with more timber so a good joinery company should be able to cope and I am sure you can find some specialists out there. The design is the important thing.
We should all have a dream so good luck in your search !0 -
I did like the Grand Designs one, the whole square log build system seemed to work well.

As has already been said though, it the land that costs an arm and a leg, the GD one I seem to remember was build on the parents land and used a planning loophole to get permission.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for all of the replies!!
I've been doing my research, and have found a company who can make a log cabin with exactly the same floor plan as the one that I stayed in!
They've quoted me £46,000 including vat, which includes the design, manufacture, delivery, offload and assembly, which I think is really good, as it will be approximately 7m x 6m and have 3 bedrooms, a large open plan lounge/kitchen and a downstairs bathroom and an en-suite bathroom!
The price doesn't include land, base, groundworks, services, fitting out, decorations, appliances, sanitary ware, kitchens etc... so the Company has advised me to have a total budget of around £80,000, not including the land,
Does this sound reasonable?
Thanks0 -
I would worry about finding a suitable site and getting planning permission first. Then you will have to ensure the log cabin you intend to buy meets building regs requirements. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

how long do they last for?, £80k all in sounds ok, but how much would a brick house cost to build, it will be harder to sell as a residential property i think due to restricted lending0
