Not sure whether this link will work.

Anyway, it's a log cabin. And I used to own it (it was a lot woodier in those days). What I would say is that too many logs are not great for mental health. A weekend ok, but month after month, it is too much BROWN.
OMG, it's absolutely gorgeous!!! I don't think I could ever get fed-up of something like that!!!
That's just made me even more determined!!

I'm sure I've seen it, about 50 metres north of the Wallasey Tunnel.0 -
I would just say that, before you get too hooked on this idea - do research the planning policies of your Local Planning Authority for new dwellings. Presumably you will want this in a rural area, where it is very very difficult to get planning permission for a new dwelling (doesn't matter if it's a log cabin, caravan, brick house etc - that makes very little difference). If you are in the Green Belt, then you have no chance whatsoever. Do have a look at the sort of areas you are thinking about buying some land, and try and find the relevant policies in the Local Plan, as I very much doubt this will be easy to get planning permission!0

No, it's on Auckland's North Shore. It destroyed us financially. We bought for $295K and then had to sell three years later ... to the current vendors ... for $245K because prices had crashed. In our day all the logs were unpainted, and there were more walls. The spa pool was there, though, and played an erm interesting role in the conception of DS, now 10. It was rather lovely sitting on the deck in the tree tops, with tuis and pigeons and the occasional rosella parrot flying around.
Can you tell I'm homesick? My plans are progressing - have got through the first interview for the job back in NZ and now working on organising a presentation.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
PN, going by the position, I think that's the fireplace, it's where the old log burner was. We had two log burners, one in the living room and another in the little room by the kitchen - they've now been combined. And it was effing freezing in winter. I hope that they've done something about the heating, that's a mighty big space.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

Wooden buildings come with their own problems. What about woodworm?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

You use treated wood. Wooden frames and even completely wooden buildings are used in much of the world.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

From their launch, I've always fancied one of these self-build kit barns from Potton in Bedfordshire.........
Picture Here
You can clad the frame in anything - brick, flint, render etc. but I just love this blackened timber.....

Good website - explains planning, finance etc.
Of course there are other house kit suppliers too, but I just love this one:cool:
deannatrios saidI remember seeing a Grand Design home built using something like this home.
There's loads of info and other wooden houses on the Grand Design website.
