Missed connections

Was going to ask on that flyer forum, but thought better of it..
I've booked
BA connect : BHX to CDG
American Airlines : CDG to MIA
and back again... on deeply discounted no change tickets, booked separately ( its a recognised connection on oneworld website, but none of the sites had it as a single booking.. instead offering much more expensive airlines/ routes )
I assume as both are part of "oneworld" ( does connect count ??? ) I will check luggage straight thro ?
I have a 2 & 1/2 hour transfer time in CDG... again I assume this is OK ( term 2A then 2B).. but what happens if there is a delay on earlier flight ....
IF missed connection would BA / AA try and get us on a later flight with another airline if available ( for both journeys no later flights with that operator on same day .. no real later alternative outward to MIA but Air France have later cdg- bhx flights) or would I have to wait until the following day .. if so who pays ?

BA Connect is a no frills bit of BA, they may want a fee for interlining baggage at CDG, though if the same terminal at CDG may not be that bothered.
Your insurance pays, because even though one world, it isn't a through ticket.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
cheers - my annual LloydsTSB Plat Travel policy docs are vague on this matter, but girl on phone said its covered .Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

although what I can't understand is why the flight could not be booked on one ticket in the first place
searching around I notice the return flights can be combined , but not the outward ?? BA1800 then AA63Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
I've booked a similar trip with BMIBaby and United Airline. Both part of the same "Code share partnership" but to book the flights as one ticket was £200 pp more than booking separate.
I did notice on BMIBaby website that they no longer allow baggage to be checked thru. Which is fine on the way out as we're staying overnight in London, but would be useful on the way home.0 -
BA and AA want you to fly from the UK to USA.
Bmibaby is not part of the Star Alliance, Bmi is though.
It's cheaper because you are liable if the connection is missed, and they say there is a flight tomorrow and that'll be £000s.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Richardw is correct. Missing the connection is down to the OP, hence the higher ticket price for a through booking. Baggage will not be through-checked as the two flights are entirely separate. You will be required to collect your cases from baggage reclaim and re-check them onto your connecting AA service.0

I preferred to fly from BHX rather than LON (direct)- and a bonus if also cheaperWiseInvestor wrote:Richardw is correct. I might have been prepared to pay a bit more for single ticket , but as I stated whilst a recognised connection on OneWorld.com it not available to book .
Email just back from BABaggage for oneworld itineraries will be through checked to the final destination regardless of separate tickets, provided you are able to produce proof or documentation of onward travel and that the connection is within airport minimum connect times, is within the same day and meets local country restrictions.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
With BACON and AA, you should be able to through check your bags (because as stated above, there is a One World arrangement). HOWEVER YOU WILL BE LIABLE if you miss your connection at CDG, because it is not booked as one ticket. If it were booked as one ticket and you missed your connection, the airlines would be liable."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

yeah, thats what I gather... what I don't understand is why can't it be booked as 1 ticket when its a recognized routeAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

It can be though, however not through BA. AA.com will probably let you along with any travel agent (including the likes of Expedia, etc.). However they will charge you a fare whack.
I get this problem quite a bit living in the Channel Islands, becuase booking through a single PNR (i.e. ticket) ex-Jersey makes the price £100's higher than buying the tickets seperatly. I normally just take the risk."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
