  • Would you be prepared to put up the specification of your system?
Number and size and nominal output of panels, manufacturer, inverter capacity and manufacturer, forecast v actual performance, price (broken down if possible), etc....................
Hello there John_Pierpoint, yes indeed, I dont mind at all, I shall have to have a ferret about for the details as we tend to file things away in 'safe places' LOL..I`m sure you know what that means....
Anyway I am rather busy for the next day, but will find the booklets pertaining to what we have on our roof.

I will say that whatever is the home-owners legal limit on size, well that is what we are supposed to have.
(I can also say, that they are in no way unattractive or an eye-sore, they quite blend in with the slate tiles, they are are also very slim, and hardly anyone that comes here even sees them!

My last quarter FITs payment from E.On was £500+ on a 3.96kwp system, perfectly normal given the exceptionally dry spring. I cant believe British Gas actually had the cheek to ask for photographic evidence of your generation meter reading before paying up
  • Well am back and my apologies for the delay, (by the way 'Mysterons' I quite agree, and when they asked for it I was almost betting that they would find some way of wriggling out of it, and IMHO I STILL think that they will try something with this going on for 25 years)

Ok so here is the info from my pamphlets The energy monitor in the kitchen is an 'Efergy Elite'.
Module Type- Sharp ND-220E1 Installed capacity 3.96KW (peek)
    Orientation- South Inverter Make/Model- SMA3300
It seems that there are 18 serial numbers for the modules
    beneath that it states:
SSEG rating (A) (V) and Max (W) factors (under normal running conditions) : 7.5 525V 3960W per string
    Angle of inclination 30 (optimised)
    Azimuth angle 0

Then there is this system over view sheet with the following:
    Tech Data:
    PV peak power 3.96kw
    Total number of modules 18
Area of PV generator 29.8 Ms
    Number of inverters 1
    Max DC power of inverter4.04kw
    Max AC """ 3.80kw
    Inverter effectivness 93.8%

    Normal power ratio 102%
    Yearly en. Yield* 3298kwh
    Energy usability factor 99.9%
    Performance ratio 80%
    Spec energy yield* 833Kwh

So I hope this has been of some help, and I would say that the two men that fitted it were very nice, we have had solar panels fitted by them previously on another barn, they were efficient, clean tidy and very polite men, they were there when stated as were the scaffolders, scaffold was put up when stated and taken down at the crack of dawn too when finished.
All in all I would recommend them, they also gave us a quote over the phone, for the solar panels but when they first came down they looked at the property and realised that we didnt need as many of the original Solar panels as thought.
So I hope this has been of some help 'John_Pierpoint'

    Hi

Looks exactly the same spec as The Green PrOject & Tesc0s were offering last year ..... I think that there are a couple of other posters on this forum with the same kit.

    Thanks

    Hi All

Spot pricing analysis for June is now available ......

    http://www.solarserver.com/service/p...v-modules.html

European manufactured panels fall to €1.55/Wp (-1%), with Chinese sourced panels reducing by 5.1%, almost exactly matching last months fall of 5.2%, giving a current spot price of £1.19/Wp ..... looks like the larger Chinese manufacturers are starting to buy market share, so look out for some of the smaller european & asian manufacturers either pulling out of the market, merging, or simply going to the wall .... anyone have lesser known panels with a long term manufacturers' performance guarantee ??

One of the things bothering me is the consolidation of the market. All boom new markets do this (just think oil, cars, computers, cable TV) and often we end up with an oligopoly of (say) half a dozen players with one de facto leader.
If I buy into a 25 year investment and stick a dozen or so panels on my roof then in year 8 (say) disaster strikes (yobbo chucks rock through a panel - 1987 style hurricane blows away a panel - fitter changing satellite dish drops his spanner..........), would it be possible to fit in a, by definition, slightly smaller alternative panel from a successful member of the now big six?

Alternatively, when (not if) the inverter conks out, would it be possible to fit (pun intended) a rival's inverter to match the panels' output and performance curve?

I suppose in 25 years both problems could occur.

Would jiggering about with the installation as a whole require (the chaos of) re registering for FiT's.

I think we need a whole lot less discussion about the pros and cons of the FiT concept and a whole lot more discussion of true value for money and the manufacturers likely to stay the course!!!!!!!!!!

    John

    PS
Anyone out there got a good source of BSA motor bike spares at sensible prices, let alone spare parts for a 20 year old gas boiler made in (say) Spain?

    PPS
Should I set up an "architectural salvage dealership" for redundant PV panels?

    Hi John

    I entirely agree.

When looking at my system that was one of the major selection criteria, which also included a view on which manufacturers would be more likely to honour guarantees in order to protect the value of a global brand image which covers other product lines.

Of course, no-one could realistically foresee the position of the market sector in 15 to 25 years time, however, I think that there is now enough published data regarding market development and market share for an informed estimate to be made on which companies will still be around in the short-term.

  • Any suggestions for the "best" combinations of panels & inverter?
Is there a web site that discussed this sort of thing?

I don't want to be patronised & "sold" a system by a second hand car dealer.

A list of must ask questions would be useful too.

    Hi

It really depends on your requirements, do you have limited roof available, do you want to support British makes, are asthetics more important than price, do you consider best to be a system with the best income or the best return on investment ... etc .... ??

Lots to think about there before anyone can really help out .....

aesthetics? not important they all look much the same to me.
British makes? European would prove more reliable when it comes to spares ? They are all multinational these days anyway?!? Not interested in heroic GB failures.
Income or the best ROI? Best discounted cash flow (presumably ROI but factoring in a rate of electricity price increase of 8%
Roof 8 meters long by 4.5 meters up the slope, 30 degrees up from horizontal faces South East unshaded Thames Valley. detached bungalow = easy access.

Just try and get a discount and loads of points from Tesco?
