Why until the Analogue transmissions are terminated?
Can't you get good digital or do you need an aerial upgrade that way you could get a hard disk recorder.
Though if you MUST go this route I dont think any one will rent you one and if they did i most probably be more in the long run.
Amazon have a couple from around £40 though ebay would be cheaper0 -

Doubt if anyone rents them.
Personally I would buy one for your requirements, (Google search results, vcr's for sale).
Panasonic combi here for £23.90 inc P&P

What are you on?
The link to the Google page has dozens of VCRs for sale, including the Panasonic I also linked to!Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Answer to the question why until analogue terminated?: the problem with my present VCR is with the recording head, the playback of the good VCRs is fine. Once I turn 75 years old, which won't be long now, I believe the BBC will contact me about switching to digital. They will probably offer me a bargain.
Thanks for the info about Panasonic.
I had heard of recycling schemes such as those run by the Council but not the one on the internet. The clue is in my age; my grandchildren know far more about the internet than I do. Once again thanks.

This link is not for a combi but a remote replacement if you dont believe me try it
So i guess you are on about this scheme http://www.helpscheme.co.uk/
But this is only for an easy to use TV and an aerial check up/replacement if needed. Are you you can't get digital now? as they will not provided you with any recording equipment and their is a cost of £40
Are you eligible now?
are aged 75 or over; or
get or could get Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Constant Attendance Allowance or mobility supplement; or
have lived in a care home for six months or more; or
are registered blind or partially sighted.0 -

On the page the "HERE" link in my post #3 takes you to is a picture of the Panasonic DVDplayer/VCR Combi, and the description for it;- "
Panasonic NVVP33 DVD Player / VCR Combo
Price:
£20.00
The best of both worlds - The Panasonic NV-VP33 DVD/VCR combi player is a truly versatile unit combining both a VCR and DVD player of the quality you would except from this leading brand. Allowing simultaneous record and playback facility, this player also allows multi format playback and 12 hours recording and playback."
There is a also a replacement original remote on the same page with a different price, £19.99, "f you dont believe me try it" !
Click on "product specs" and see what comes up, if that isn't a spec for the Panasonic DVD/VCR combi then you are looking at a different page!Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
And where do you intend to buy that from?
Dealtime doesn't link you to any store that you can by that from0
