Wait till they are screaming for PS5 or whatever in a few years time !!"An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".
 !!!!!! is all that about?0

Would agree with all other posters who have said that the cost of formula is the tip of the iceberg with children! It gets worse, but then no one has them to save money!
I would also say start with the cheapest - whatever it is.
The next few months will fly by and they will be on cows milk quicker than you know.0

I have to agree with forever aptamil is just a marketing gimmick infact they got their wrists slapped not so long ago for making claims that werent true and had to change their advertising. All babies are different and will react to different milks in different ways it is just a case of trial and error. I believe the hipp organic is the cheapest available at the moment so give that a go (my bubs didnt take to it but other mothers swear by it) then change if it doesnt suit :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Wow what a good response! Thanks all for taking the time to reply
To answer a few questions -
This is my 3rd child so I am well aware of how expensive they can be! Its probably due to the fact that Ive never really have had to buy it (with my 1st who was formula fed I was able to get vouchers for the milk, with 2nd I breastfed for 6 months then switched only for her to suddenly 'go off' milk soon after! With her I ended up giving her cows milk at 10 months as she refused to drink formula and theres only so much milk you can put in foods!)
I did mean weaning as in switching from breastfeeding to formula, ive never given by chidren solids before 6 months
I also know about all the laws about advertising formula milk etc etc and about no formula being as good as breastmilk - all part of the reason why I breadtfed in the first place
The reason I am thinking of stopping is not for a 'serious' reason I guess .... you see ive never 'enjoyed' breastfeeding, I do it because I believe it is best but I do find it tireing and restricting - ive tried expressing but ive found to produce enough milk I have to be hooked up like a heffer for a long time - which is even more restricting that breastfeeding is!
I may continue till 6 months .... but even saying that makes my heart sink, which sounds awful because I love by daughter and wish I loved breastfeeding her but I just dont This isnt helped by the fact that I do have to other children to care for and I sometimes feel they are getting left out because 'mummy is feeding the baby AGAIN' This isnt helped by the fact that I do have to other children to care for and I sometimes feel they are getting left out because 'mummy is feeding the baby AGAIN'
I am going back to work when youngest is 7 months so switch will happen before then as like I said expressing doesnt seem to work for me (and believe me I have tried!)
Oh and can I point out - my asking if there was a way to save money isnt because I cant MANAGE! If I couldnt manage I wouldnt of had another baby! It was just something I was wondering as it seemed you could save money on most other things but are limited when it comes to formula.
Ah well it seems I will have to see how it goes, I think I will try and continue after 3 months are up, who knows maybe I will start to enjoy it more as she gets older.
 Thanks again everyone xxx0

Theres nothing wrong in admitting you dont like breastfeeding, i hated every minute of it, it felt very strange and 99% of the time it was toecurling. im not a fan of having my nipples touched, its more tickly than my arm pits!. Have you tried breastfeeding on the move to give you a bit more freedom? a wraparound sling is very good at positioning your baby for feeding0

Perhaps mixed feeding might be for you - i.e. bringing in one or two bottles during the day, and leaving the breastfeeding for early morning/late evening feeds? This worked for me - I never particularly enjoyed breastfeeding either. I stuck at it with my son for 7 months, but with my daughter I introduced mixed feeding at around 3 months, and gradually worked my way towards exclusive formula feeding at around 5 months (around the time I returned full-time to work).0

:TDitto.Ditto.Ditto. So refreshing to hear someone say they do it, but they don't like it.
I can never understand all the people who say they love it, as I didn't. For me it was a necessary evil I endured. One of my first birthday presents to both my kids was a cup of cows milk! I kept going with breast as cost always wins through for me in most things...
I set myself small goals - you know Friends, the Chandler getting married episode...can you just put on a suit, can you just.... I used to think, just two more days, I can do another week I guess. Before I knew it we'd got to 6 months and demand decreased. Maybe don't think of it as another 6 months, but just a fortnight/week/few days and see how you get on. And get a tub of formula in the cupboard for when you can't face another day.
And please don't feel bad, whatever you decide to do. Guilt is a mums permanent friend...You will have a happy healthy baby, however they are fed, and feel far happier yourself if you're comfortable with how you are feeding.
All the best.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Wow. I hated it to, Couldn't stand it.
It hurt like hell, i cried at every feed cause of how much i hated it, how much it hurt and then cried more because of how upset it was making me.
I tried mixed feeding at first then baby seemed to forget how to latch on, and has prefered bottle ever since.
I dont think my BM was filling her up, she was 9.11 at birth and lost a quite a bit of weight
Since i've been feeding her, i've been happy and she has seemed more happy. And its nice to know im not 'harming' her like the BF counsellers make out
Do whatever makes you happy 0 0

One of our baby clinics sold tins of formula cheaper than Asda. maybe ask your health visitor if any of the clinics in your area do this?0

I breastfed both mine until 9 mths and have to admit it was a chore from the word go.
I used to read a book so very little bonding went on
I was glad it worked for the health benefits to the children and the convenience benefits to me though - couldn't stand the thought of all that sterilising, also one of my friends with a baby has to make the milk on demand now, apparently it's not recommended to make your feeds at the start of the day and refridgerate them.
Of course now we are just embarking on the driving lessons stage
 Good luck OP
