Cleosmum - what a bummer! Hope it all resolves itself soon for the better. It's a real worry when you're just left hanging isn't it?

Today has been ok but I'm tired and a bit short of patience.

    My list....
    • Took lunch to work
    • Will have yesterdays leftovers for tea
    • Checked banks - will be tight this month but should just make it without getting overdrawn:o
    • Have walked dog and also taken him to the park for a good run about whilst its still dry
    • Have a bit of marking to do later
    • Give OH big hugs -think he's feeling a bit fed up so a magic cwch (welsh word for big all-encompassing hug) will hopefully work!
    • Make sure I've got stuff ready for tea from the freezer for tomorrow
    • Check survey balances
    • do a bit more of a job application
    • Have a nice bath later using gift smellies
That's it for today - have a good evening
    January grocery spending - £82.73/ £120

And I am going to end my post on a  as my new job are being difficult about both OH and I with our training hours, yesterday they werent happy that we cant both start at 6am.....today my manager said he could have a word with HR and they may just cancel my contract :( which has knocked me and I am seriously wondering what I am doing/have done! I just cant leave a 6 and 10 yr old alone, and OH did tell them he wasnt available until after 9am :(:(:( Manager said it in front of 3 other colleagues, which was embarrassing but handy as I have a witness....not that it helps because they can cancel my contract in the first 4 weeks if they want and I cant stop them. How pants :(

That's shocking Cloesmum!!! I'd contact HR myself - is it written in your contract that you need to start at 6am or is it the usual hours? Also I think (as a manager myself) the compnay is skating pretty close to the line, government guidelines are that companies need to have family friendly & flexible policies...

They can't revoke your contract because of this, and seeing as there were witnesses I think you'd have a fair case if it came to a tribunal... gently discuss a recent case of a tribunal at a team meeting if you can google a favourable test case! x

Determined - My normal hours are 5am start and they know I have to start then as I have things that legally have to be completed by 8am, but OH has 2pm-10pm shifts, purely because it fits in with him taking the kids to school and I can pick them up, so I think its really unfair to suddenly spring on us that he has to train on opening up when he will never ever do one (not even for overtime as no childcare). I am hoping the manager was just stressed and being a bit narky, rather than saying he would actually get HR to cancel contract. Really peed me off, Ive been job searching :(

As an aside, how do I tactfully tell my new colleague that if she cant keep her seat belt on til the car stops then I shall scream??? OH was driving earlier and he was not pleased when she took her seatbelt off about a mile up the road, and it makes me uncomfy when I drive and she does it...

I-need to make - might be worth phonign the mobile folks - I did with mine and they helped me reduce my package down to the absolute basic before I could cancel

On the other phone they let me move to a monthy pre payasyougo - before the contract finished.

Growing stuff is pretty easy (honest) just think of the things you buy the most and give me a shout - a couple of pots can give you alot of stuff even if its just a few salad leaves or herbs etc.

Meal planning (as much as I hate it) has helped us hugely cut down our food bills..........................reading the 'feed a family for £20' is amazing and is worth it for the tips on making things really stretch.

Goodluck! :) Stick with this thread - its amazing!!xxxxxxxxx

Thanks Fayjmck, I contacted my company and my contract is due for renewal..... yay!!!!!!! is in my oh's name so he will need to call and cancel! Spoke to a friend today and she works for a mobile phone company so said will add me to her friends and family so i will get 30% off my contract price - will save me loads!! I am so happy about it!! its not what you know its who you know!!

And then I can home to a virgin media bill and they had put my bill up again, over £3 a month so i called them up and they have reduced it by £4!!!!! every little helps!!!

so have made some savings today!!!!

would youn mind giving me some tips?? thats really kind of you. I read some earlier on which have inspired me even more! need to make and save money!!!

will have to read that thread, i really need to get the shopping down as its so expensive at the moment. i am buying buying buying continously! I bought some already chopped up fish to make a fish pie, didnt get round to it and looked on packet other day as i froze it and it doesnt say its freezable so i am now worried i wont be able to use it. i would like to get into the habit of batch making and freezing as at weekends we will get a takeaway as i cant be bothered to cook, terrible hey!

out of curiousity - are you able to freeze salad?

    will read the thread!!!

thank you so much for your inspiration!! xxxxxx
  • Hi Sarah and welcome!!! However I agree with fay - I'm the manager and have a very strict moral code on stealing (it can get quite cold and lonely up here in my ivory tower :D) and I don't consider charging phone at work as stealing, I would however consider using company posting, not putting correct times on timesheet, using the internet for persoanl usage unless its put down on timesheet as a break, taking pens/paper etc...

I am with Fay and Determined also, if you are a hard worker and you give the company 5 minutes here 15 minutes there, then what is the problem!!?? time is money!!!

welcome though!! this thread is great!!!

  • Hi everyone!!

Cleosmum - sounds rubbish to me!!! I'm pretty sure they'll have a real difficulty in doing any such thing if your oH hours are usually going to be 6pm !! Some people high up really get on my nerves!!!

Had a hard couple of days at work... Have been working exceptionally hard to stay positive and focussed. Did 2.5 hours over time today, 30 mins last night. - will update my signature!

I'm planning on spending nothing on food until next sunday to try and compensate a bit for the overspending over the weekend!!

Brain is a bit frazzelled so will say goodnight and see you all tomorrow x

Lol I will feel like a right wally! Wish I could take DD with me, if anyone forgets their belt she gives a short sharp shriek of BELT!!!!!!
  • Cleosmum ((sorry if this sounds like a rant)) we had a similar issue with OH's brohter who refused to wear one - I told him in my car he either wore one or got out.

    The law - seat belts..............

The law requires that drivers and passengers aged 14 and over in cars, vans and other commercial vehicles must wear a seatbelt if available.

Quite simply she's breaking the law and I don't know if its you or her that would be liable - I'd be inclined to think you'd be the one liable - and also having seen the seatbelt adverts - someone in the car NOT wearing a seat belt is putting all of you at risk.

Sorry this person is so inconsiderate, breaking the law as well and sorry to rant a bit - poor you.

I hope you get it sorted out. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
