Family bereavements put on hold?

Ive had a divorce this week as an excuse. I hadnt even asked them. I dont stress over stuff if it is less than a fortnight due.
I feel cheated that I havent had a 'volcano' excuse yet.0 -
Last year I sold some concert tickets (at cost price!), and though the buyer was slow to pay did not mind as they had kept in contact, and they lived nearby. Then I got an email saying that she and her partner had decided to get married that week (the concert was only a few weeks away) and so she no longer wanted them.
I was dubious about her sudden nuptials so did a bit of digging, only to find that she had just won some better tickets for the same concert! I then checked if she was on Facebook, and realised we had mutual friends. A quick call and I discovered that she was already married! I sent a rather sarcastic reply, to which she denied everything I had found out!
The sad thing is, if she had just been honest I would have been a bit annoyed, but would have just relisted the tickets with no further problem. However, as a result of her dishonesty I did report her as a non paying buyer. Something must have made her think twice as she has not used her account since!
Gone ... or have I?0 -

I couldn't even face looking at the computer for almost a week and you can imagine the emails I had received from buyers. Most were sympathetic.
I had just got myself back up and running when I miscarried my baby (10 days after my father had died) This was also the time of the postal strike so I was having huge issues with some of the back log from my father's death and then was off for another few days as I was very upset.
I then had to apologise to the customers again; explain why contact was very scarce from me. The following week my business premises was robbed. A lot of my listings were stolen and some things that had to be packaged for Ebayers. Back contacting customers again, and because of the backlog from the postal strike, some people would have gotten 3 emails from me with 3 different reasons for bad contact on my part. You can imagine, I was ready for the funny farm.
I know this is an essay, but it just shows that a row of bad things can happen to a genuine person too. You just cant tell.
The problem is that its the genuine people like you who I dont believe as Ive heard it so many times before.
I usually do a bit of digging before I complain, if I can see that the seller has been using their account since I bought an item then I would complain, but if it was inactive & then they told me about a bereavement then I would be more understanding.
I had this problem the other day & the seller tried to convince me the reason my item hadnt been sent of 17 days was because of a bereavement. They were so upset that they couldnt e-mail me to let me know my item would be delayed, but they weren't too upset to list new items!0 -
I think what makes us so cynical is that some of the people who claim to have had a bereavement/serious illness/house exploded or whatever seem able to send long explanatory emails but can't refund or post things.
Or they are still buying/selling things on ebay. I had a woman who claimed that she couldn't pay for the item she won because her chronically ill child was rushed to hospital and she was spending every moment by her side. I couldn't help noticing that she was still doing a lot of buying and selling despite this sad event!0 -
I;ve been there, blue lighted to hospital twice and ending up in intensive care. However emails were sent to all my buyers.
Bl**dy know-all, been there, done it better than everybody else as per usual. Wonder why I read this forum??Just because you used to be you think everybody else is, don't you?0 -

I sold an item on a "buy it now" and heard nothing at all. Eventually I opened a NPB case with Ebay and won. A few days later I got an email from a "family member" apologising and saying the bidder had a heart attack and had died.
I sent the email to Ebay and they replied and said that in the circumstances If I agreed they would remove the NPB strike from their account. I agreed.
I completely forgot about leaving feedback but a couple of weeks later I went to update all my outstanding feedback and saw the item was still there. The only problem was the feedback number had gone up significantly. A quick check showed the deceased buyer was still bidding some two weeks after his death!0 -
