Family bereavements put on hold?

All the sellers who have family bereavements when they forget to post items & buyers who don't pay due to the same reason can keep their dear old relatives safe for a little while.
The erupting volcano, flights disruption etc, will probably be the excuse of the week or fortnight.
So all those dear old folk can rest easy.

Actually I would have been caught by this. I tend to go away for 8 days only, so the night before I go I set up 10 day auctions knowing I'll be back 24 hours before they end. However in the past when I have had health issues I have managed to get my password out to my sister who has at least managed to cancel my stuff or at least email the buyers. No doubt as long as I could find a place to charge my phone I could do the same if i was stuck overseas.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm not including proper sellers, just the ones who do have more deaths & car accidents then usual.
My parents were stuck at Xmas for a week & they were going to go away for easter but decided on May instead as the weather's not been brilliant in Spain.0 -
You know, I always would have doubted people who told me about bereavements on Ebay, then last year I was selling my heart out, doing great, when my father died unexpectedly. I couldn't even face looking at the computer for almost a week and you can imagine the emails I had received from buyers. Most were sympathetic.
I had just got myself back up and running when I miscarried my baby (10 days after my father had died) This was also the time of the postal strike so I was having huge issues with some of the back log from my father's death and then was off for another few days as I was very upset.
I then had to apologise to the customers again; explain why contact was very scarce from me. The following week my business premises was robbed. A lot of my listings were stolen and some things that had to be packaged for Ebayers. Back contacting customers again, and because of the backlog from the postal strike, some people would have gotten 3 emails from me with 3 different reasons for bad contact on my part. You can imagine, I was ready for the funny farm.
I know this is an essay, but it just shows that a row of bad things can happen to a genuine person too. You just cant tell.0 -
I had a similar run of serious problems a few years ago and managed to scrape through still working. There are genuine sellers who have genuine problems, I usually give people the benefit of the doubt until they give me reason not to.spendaholiceejit wrote: »I know this is an essay, but it just shows that a row of bad things can happen to a genuine person too. I;ve been there, blue lighted to hospital twice and ending up in intensive care. However emails were sent to all my buyers.

Nor do I.
and this evening I find myself emailing 2 buyers as I didn't get to the post office as planned this afternoon....my daughter hospital appt lasted 6 hours instead of the usual 2....
As I typed my messages I was literally 'laughing out loud' because I'd not believe the email I typed if I'd have received it

The other thing I never believe in any story, not just ebay, is the 'I'm disabled or I have a disabled child' and therefore normal rules or behavious somehow does not apply.
I've had items very late and when questioned the excuse is 'I am disabled and couldn't get out' I've had very late payment and got the disabled excuse (yet paypal was used?) I've had a book from Amazon sold as 'very good' which had no covers, and the excuse, yep 'I am disabled and sell to feed my family', so how does that prevent them checking the condition of a book?
I am involved in a charity for people with disabilities, virtually none of th epeople i meet would use that as an excuse to break normal rules, in fact most go out of their way to seem completely the same as everyone else. They hate being given special treatment due to some physical or mental difference.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I hate excuses!
However as I live in the Northern Isles, we have had few planes, currently don't have our Aberdeen or Scrabster boat service (basically there is one non-subsidised service just now!) I fear delays will be inevitable! This said I have a few days before my items end, am more concerned about stuff coming in!
Something posted in England on Thu got here yesterday...not bad, but that was before they took our Aberdeen boat service away! I presume RM will do all they can but their choices are limited right now!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I think what makes us so cynical is that some of the people who claim to have had a bereavement/serious illness/house exploded or whatever seem able to send long explanatory emails but can't refund or post things.0
