Streamline.net cancellation problem.

Hello there,
I received an email from Streamline yesterday saying that my account was going to be suspended because my card details were out of date.
Now I accept that I obviously didn't read the T&C properly so didnt opt out within the 30 day period and I feel that just paying up would be easier (£62).
What would be the best to completely cancel my account to ensure that they do not contact me again in 2 years asking for more money. Would I just enter new card details in the control panel and then phone and cancel tommorow? Or would I phone them up, provide them with my card details to pay up and request cancellation. Or just send them an email?
Here's what people from other forums have said but im not sure whether to pursue the method of just ignoring them.

Has anyone managed to cancel a renewable contract successfully?
I want to move elsewhere, I don’t mind losing the domain name, just don’t want to end up paying another renewal fee next year.
The TC’s state I need to send a written cancellation 30 days before the renewal date (March 2011). Can I request this in advance of 30 days?
The T&C’s are not clear on written notification (does that include email).

The best method to ensure they don’t sting you for renewal is to cancel the credit card which is registered with them. Cancelling you account is very difficult – you have to raise a support ticket, then ring the helpline but it’s unlikely they’ll pick up before you’ve been on the phone for 45 minutes.

Yep, cancelling your card with them is the safest option, don’t even let on to them that you are planning to cancel, they are not to be trusted. Tell your bank not to accept payment requests from streamline either.
Log into your control panel and update the IPSTAG to your new host, once transfer is complete, remove as much info as you can, delete all files left on the server, and just abandon the account. They’ll figure it out once they’ve tried to take a payment from you and failed, but by then, there will be nothing they can do to you
Cheers.

Hello again,
I decided today to cancel my account and just pay up. However, ive heard stories that two or three years down the line, even if you cancel then they still charge you.
The only written confirmation of cancelling an account is via a ticket handled internally by themselves. Now ive been taking "print screens" of these tickets and have a full intention of cancelling my debit card once the above payment has been taken.
However, even though I paid via debit card and intend on cancelling it, can they go directly to my bank and take money? If I take print screens of tickets stating that the accounts have been cancelled, are these viable as evidence in case that in two years time they try to take money despite account cancellation.0 -
I have been a victim of streamline.net unauthorised billing. They are very sneaky. They automatically renue accounts and domains even when you tell them not to. They they refuse to refund. I am currently taking action for them for two seperate bill. It is most frustrating as if they acted properly I may have stayed with them. I only host 4 accounts but they charged me for hosting 20. They also charged me more than once to renue a domain I had asked them to cancel. If you write to them they close you get told its in the terms and conditions. If you phone them you get a call center somewhere in asia and also fobed off. I currently have documents which state my wish to cancel and also the invoice and withdrawl from my accounts after this.
The best thing to do is avoid streamline and don't trust. I have changed my card number to prevent more unauthorised transactions.0 -
Back in 2007 I was with fasthosts who performed the same underhanded, sneaky billing tactics but eventually managed to close my accounts. So I moved to streamline as I thought they were better at the time.
Now I find they seem to employ the same tactics, and I have just realised, were bought out by fasthosts in 2008 just after I set up my accounts (doh!)
Same problem - I told them to cancel my renewal 12 months before it was due (in a support ticket and phone call), then today found out they have debited my card for £76 for a two year domain and hosting account that I don't need or want.
Having called CS, they tell me to issue another support ticket and the cancellations department will be in touch (as they don't take phone calls!). No doubt I will be fobbed off with the T&C and told I won't get a refund.
What I want to know is, how is this legal? Surely they have to have authority to take money from cards and issue a reminder beforehand.
I think if I don't get a refund, I am going to write to trading standards, watchdog and my local MP, as well as set up a dedicated website to highlight the unfair practice of automatic renewals without prior notification....0 -
An update to nmy situation:
streamline have cancelled my account and issued a full refund much to my surprise.
Credit where it is due, they have been very good about this.0 -
Probably because the credit card companies have had so many chargebacks that they read the riot act to themmulverine76 wrote: »An update to nmy situation:

How long did it take for you to hear back from them? The support is fairly poor - I sent a cancellation request last Thursday and still haven't heard back - slightly annoying..0

I have a similar situation to this original post.
I signed up for 2 year package (Unlimited User) which has now expired (early May). I do not want to renew this package but did not tell them this 30 days before the expriry date. I have asked to be downgraded to a lesser package but they say I have to pay for the next 2 years of the Unlimited User because I didn't cancel 30 days prior to expiry.
Luckily the card details they hold for me have expired, so they can't automatically take the money from me.
What can they do to make me pay, i.e. legal action?

Many thanks.0 -
Exact same issue as the above. fortunately my card had expired but they're demanding I update my details so they can take £90 off me for another 2 years hosting I dont want. I didnt clock the renewal until after the date unfortuntely, but its only been 2 weeks and they wont cancel the "automatically renewing contract" which seems utterly ridiculous!
Only now from a trawl of the web do I realised what a horror this company is

Hello there,
Sorry to resurect an old post but I'm not having this same problem with Streamline.net...
Basically by chance my bank details have changed, so when they tried to charge me for renewal they failed. Now when I log on I have no access to the control panel, just a rude message telling me that I owe them money and that I can't access my control panel without doing so. (£120 or so is what they want ne to pay).
I have ready so much bad stuff about them and had such a horrible experience dealing with them in the past that I want to move elsewhere so I've bought hosting at one.com which also offers a domain transfer service. In order to transfer my domain (which I want to keep!) I have to provide one.com with an "Auth-ID" code, which I am supposed to get from my current provider (Streamlined).
Seeing as I'm not able to log onto the control panel I cannot get any information from them at all. So far all I've been able to do is have an argument with them via the support ticket system and told them that I refuse to pay the "overdue payment".
Is there any way I can rescue my domain? What rights do I have and if I request this information from them are they obliged to give it to me by law? I do own the domain after all...
Any advice would be great, I'm at my wits end...
Thanks guys and glad to be part of the forums!

I did it myself by going to nominet. I paid a fee of £12 but was worth it. I am now having trouble cancelling my account! I have called emailed and done the ticket support thing, but they don't bother answering. Grr i also called my credit card and tried to stop payment, but my credit card said that even if i cancelled my card they still have the power to take my money. I have to supply them with evidence i cancelled with streamline which i have done. Not fair if i have to do this every month though. Any suggestions?0
