I do like the Phaeton and the Merc CLS, they are both a consideration, I'd rather wait for the right car than rush into buying someing.

Good choice Once you test it, you won't want to get anything else. I've driven an Alpina B3 and I loved it!

I drove a friends D3 and loved that, my head says have a look at the D3, my heart says run to the B10 clutching a bankers draft.

If you fancy an Alpina B3S (4 door saloon with SMG Auto Box with 304bhp) my sister is getting rid of hers, just let me know. She's had it from new and it's only ever been into the supplying Alpina Dealer for work and it sounds like it's in your price bracket. They are great cars and as stated above are generally very well cared for as they are enthusiast owned. I'd imagine the B10 would be a cracker and much better than a 7 series. Alpina is definately the way to go, enjoy.
