Parking fine @ Aldi Liverpool. Is it legal?

My aunt was parked in the Aldi car park at Old Swan Liverpool on 6th April. She was parked there over 3/4 of an hour than allowed.
A few days later she received a parking fine from a company called Parkingeye for £40.
She wrote to them and appealed it, even enclosing her store receipt for over £60. She received a letter back enclosing 2 small photos of her entering and leaving the car park, along with a letter insisting she owes the £40 and if not paid by a certain date will rise to £70. They had also extended the amount of time she had to pay. They said they had got her contact details from the DVLA. In small print at the bottom of the ticket it says 'If you pay this ticket you are admitting liability'.

Can anyone please tell me if she is legally obliged to pay this fine.

Many thanks for any help offered.

Use the search function on here and read other threads regarding Parkingeye.

It's not a fine, just ignore it and everything else they send from now on. DO NOT contact them.
  • Many thanks!
Does her appealing the fine make any difference?

It's NOT a fine! It's just an invoice requesting payment.

  • I have got one of these as well today from ParkingEye for also parking in an Aldi car park for quite a bit over the time.
My friend from the area told me that she has lots of friends who park there even over night when they visit her and have never had any trouble, so silly me believed her and ended up parking there for nearly two hours over the permitted time :o

I've received a letter today asking me to pay £50 which will be upped to £80 if i dont pay by 6th May and then £110 plus liability and other charges if the payment is delayed even further.

Should I just ignore it? I mean to be fair I did park there over the permitted time, so will they take it further? There were other spaces available in the car park so I don't believe i've caused tem a great deal off loss :(

Ignore these muppets. You haven't caused them any loss. Expect a couple more begging letters before they crawl back under their stone.

Nothing wrong with them charging. What is wrong is the disproportionate "penalties" they demand if you break their "rules".

Did'nt say the was,I keep a few coins in the ashtray for this purpose.
What I do object to is the mommies & daddies using the car park for free while they walk their kids to the school gates.
The sign says the car park is for the use of Asda's customers, these are,in 90% of cases, clearly not Asda customers, so what makes them special?

But is Asda losing any money because of potential customers not being able to park there? I would have thought that the store might want to grant this concession to the parents, say for 15 minutes. It's good publicity for them, and it keeps the vehicles away from parking in front of the school. Always a source of potential accidents.

The's a car park in front of the school, always has been.If anything them parking in Asda is more of an accident risk with the parents & kids constantly running back & forth over the entryway to the Asda car park, which often forces a queue of traffic back onto the main road, especially when picking the kids up after school.
As for them costing Asda custom then yes,it does.Quite often, again at school out time, you cant get parked in the Asda car park because of the spaces being taken up by parents cars.even worse on Wednesday when the Market is on & half of Asda's car park is taken over by stallholders.
I have often driven in,around & back out again because I cant get a space because of the parents cars taking up spaces.
