Too many books!

I enjoy selling books and use amazon, play and greenmetropolis - I normally manage to sell at least one a week and have managed to put a good few hundred pounds in a savings account doing this over the last couple of years. However my bedroom is full of books and its beginning to drive me mad! I have quite a large built in wardrobe and most of them are stacked in there in different piles (according to subject), and then there a loads under my bed!
The main ones that I can't seem to shift are thrillers by authors such as Dean Koontz, James Patterson etc, there are many of these already on Amazon and mostly listed for just a penny, I have tried contacting various book shops but because the books are so widely available they are not interested, also tried putting ads in my local paper to no avail. Common sense says just freecycle them or something but so many are in such excellent condition i feel that I want to try and get a bit of money back from them.
I've thought of listing on ebay as noticed some do seem to sell on there, though it is time consuming....I don't like doing car boots as I hate standing around for hours on end only to lug it all back, and have tried the local auction house who won't give me any idea of how much etc just that I would have to lug them all down for them to look at first.....
Any advice much appreciated though I think I already know the answer!

You wont get anything in reality for popular paperbacks. Charity shop is your best option
  • You could offer them as a job lot of mixed books on ebay, sometimes they go for quite a good price.
Did you know you can get Viagra software now??? Yeah, it turns your floppy drive into a hard drive :D
  • I would job lot them too if I were you... I am fed up of the charity shops, I rarely get a book for less than £2 from them nowadays.. no matter how old or condition. They are dearer than supermarkets imo.... Why not car boot them?

  • I was thinking of job lots, especially if they are part of a series :)

i had a stack of books and both my local charity shops turned me away as they had no room for them!

If you have any local markets there are usually people who will buy bulk from you, there was a guy who used to come into the charity shop where i worked and used to do that so try asking round your local markets.

They are dealers and usually sell on Amazon, so still won't buy these 1p novels for anything more than the usual charity shop dealers cost which ranges between 2-5p per book. (I pay 5p on my contract )

You can try them under wholseale/job lots or even put a bulk load up in books (but then you have to abide by the postage caps).

Might be worth checking on your local market, there are a couple of second hand stalls on the market in our town. They seem to want the popular titles too, you may not get much per book, but it would be better than nothing. you would perhaps get more that way than you would get with a job lot on ebay..either postage would be too high to get many bids on a 'job lot', or you would have limited potential buyers with collection only.

Have you tried gumtree, at least that's free as is adtrader & freeads, vivastreet, preloved. Have you got a friend who likes car booting? Offer them on a 50-50 basis.
  • They used to have "libraries" i.e. a trolley that went around and the patients could take books to read.

Try you local league of friends (of the local hospital)
