Where is RBS going?

My Mum & Dad moved down from Scotland to the misery of England a few years ago. They both bank with RBS, and have heard that RBS is having to sell its branches in England to someone like Yorkshire bank because those nice people at the EU say so.
Does anyone know when or if this is likely to happen, and if so what will happen to existing customers of RBS in England?

RBS has got to sell some branches as a condition of the government bail out. Customers of those branches being sold will move to the new bank or have the option to stay with RBS.
As RBS also owns NatWest your parents should still be able to conduct their banking ok.
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

Very tasteful comment there, there no room up there for you? As I'm sure they'd have you back if you are so against EnglandLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -

Sorry - was only being funny. Didn't want to provoke any anger. Love living in England.0 -

Well you'd assume it would be easy enough to conduct banking via NatWest as an RBS customer but it's not necessarily so. I'm a Bank of Scotland customer living down south and have just had to switch due to challenges associated with using the Halifax / Lloyds TSB branch network down here. Halifax no longer allow BoS customers to use their agencies, only main branches. Lloyds TSB didn't offer any assistance at all. So, I'm switching to FirstDirect and their HSBC network.0 -
What sort of banking services do your parents need ? Have they asked in their RBS branch what arrangements will be made for RBS customers in misery England ?
Linda
PS I worked for Nat West for 30 years and rue the day RBS set their sights on us.0 -

I live in Scotland and was mortified to read that! Joke or no joke, this forum is nationwide. It is a wee bit offensive!
Anyhow, hope you get your problem sorted0 -
To continue as they are with RBS ad infinitum they will need to ensure their account is domiciled with a Scottish branch, ie one with a sort-code 83 -- --.
ps Far more Jocks live in England than vice-versa so it can't all be 'misery' down here.0 -
