Easyjet return flight not yet cancelled unsure what to do?

Me and some friends were meant to be flying out to Prague yesterday with Easyjet to start a weeks worth of travel across East/Central Europe (Prague-Vienna-Budapest). Our flight to Prague obviously got cancelled and we soon realised that we weren't going to be going at all this week. We are now looking to reschedule in a week or two. One problem we have though is that we're not sure where we stand on our return flight back to the UK from Budapest. We realise that this is classed as a single journey (not flying back from same outbound destination etc) and hasn't yet been cancelled. We have looked into changing the dates of the flight, but obviously this would incur a cost (possibly £50 each + £25 admin fee each from my understanding). Is there anyway we could claim any money back, or avoid having to pay extra fees?

Don't think there is any chance of a refund. Easyjet doesn't do refunds. Not sure what applies when you have had outbound flight cancelled but not return flight. I am due to fly out to Portugal later this week and flight has not yet been cancelled, but I might well in same position as you if they cancel the outbound flight and not the return one.

Thanks for the reply usignuolo :)

From my understanding if the flight is cancelled that is our only chance of getting a refund/rearrangement from Easyjet. I've also just found out that this isn't covered by my insurer (Fortis - through Alliance & Leicester) because it isn't a cancellation and we haven't been let down by public transport etc

It is beginning to look like our only way of recovering some of the money is by rearranging the flight

If you booked both flights a the same time then your confirmation email it will show it as an outward journey and a return journey under one booking reference number. This is clearly a return flight and not two singles but budget airlines try to argue that it isn't.
  • Thanks epm! It looks like we've somewhat 'shot ourselves in the foot' then, as they were booked separately.

I've done separate bookings before such as Jet2 for out and EasyJet for back, Eurostar for out and Easyjet for back and Ryanair for out and Eurolines for back. It's only because of all this disruption that they're making you aware of your rights.

Just looked on website for Easyjet. They are giving refund or free transfer for flights they cancel but not as yet for any uncancelled flights.

    (reposting)

Easyjet's website says the following for refunds for a cancelled flight:

    - A full refund of the cost of your flight and any directly related unflown sector within the same booking (if applicable), back to the original card your flight was paid with (please specify details under "Other" on the bottom section of the online refund claim form),

So this would mean outbound and return flights! Even if the return flight isn't cancelled.

I specified the full cost and the additional flight number in the 'other' section.

I have just found the reference to cancellations as a result of the volcano and it says

    If your flight is cancelled
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to offer you either:
    - A full refund of the cost of your flight and any directly related unflown sector within the same booking (if applicable), back to the original card your flight was paid with, OR
    - A free transfer to another flight on the same route within 30 days of the original flight date.

If your flight is part of a return trip, you will also be able to change any directly related sector(s) within the same booking free of charge to keep your initial intended length of stay. If transferring to a flight at a later date, please note that the current volcanic ash related disruptions may impact flight operations for an extended period.

Please be aware that the free transfer option is only available for the disrupted flight/s. For any related flights in the booking, which are not affected by the disruption, the free transfer facility will not be available.

usingnuolo - right, so we are in agreement, yes? :)
  • We rebooked our flights to go this coming Saturday, as next week is the only alternative time that we can all go. We've had to pay the admin fee + difference to move our Budapest flight forward a week too, but that wasn't extortionate either. Our accommodation was moved forward a week as well, we're quite lucky that we've not really lost out on that yet.

With regards to the whole insurance thing, reading some of the threads on this forum, I still believe I have grounds for a claim through Fortis because we've had to rearrange our Budapest flight because we weren't able to make it. Would anyone be able to answer the two following questions with regards to this -

A - Would it be possible to claim the extra cost we've had to incur by rearranging the flights?
B - If our outgoing flight (Prague) were to be cancelled again but the return flight (Budapest - made through a separate booking) was to go ahead would we have grounds for a claim?
