NZ to UK - will whole trip be cancelled?

I haven't been able to trawl though all the posts but had a good look and can't find an answer to my poser. It might be a stupid question but just to put my mind at ease...

My mum's on a trip to Wellington, NZ and will fly back to the UK with Air New Zealand - she'll have a domestic flight to Auckland then long haul to the UK with a change either at LAX or Hong Kong (not sure which at the mo). She booked all her flights at the same time.

My question is will Air New Zealand try to get her as far as they can, i.e. to LAX or Hong Kong or will her entire return trip be cancelled? If she stays in Wellington she'll be fine as she's with my sister but I'm a bit worried she could end up on her own in Auckland or only half way home! As I understand it, as a non-EU carrier AirNZ won't have to provide any accommodation, etc?

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

What information did Air New Zealand provide when you or your mother contacted them?

We haven't contacted them yet. She's not due to fly back until Monday so with luck it won't be an issue. But like a lot of people on the forum I just thought I'd see if anyone knows what the likely scenario will be for now rather than spend ages on the phone trying to talk to someone at AirNZ.

I would find out as soon as possible what would happen. Air NZ will take her as far as they can.You dont really want her in Hong Kong at the moment as the stranded passengers are getting ripped off with hotel prices. One guy said on the news tonight that his room had jumped from 290 to 800 HD per night.. Hopefully the situation will be resolved by then but I would be making enquires just now in the event the flights still cannot get into UK.
