Did the person (police, vosa, dvla?) give you a receipt? Surely there are details on it about how to reclaim anything, aren't there?
Not much help now, but with the previous owner's help, perhaps you could have taxed it online before you left for home.
Thanks Wealdroam - I didn't actually think of checking the receipt, I am sure that there is probably something on there about reclaiming the £160.
Yes, I agree that perhaps in hindsight, we could have sought the sellers help in taxing the vehicle online. But tbh, we have never done it online before and so it didn't really cross our minds as we always go to our post office.
I have never heard of a Post Office opening on Sundays, if we had known that this service existed anywhere we would have tried our utmost to get it taxed.
Another thing, is that when speaking to the seller the day before we picked up the vehicle, he said that it was completely road legal so we took that to meant that it was taxed.
We can't change what happened and it was a very expensive lesson to learn. It just bugs me as we have never broken the law, never been fined before and pay all our taxes etc but get completely shafted. My OH actually said that while he was in the police car (I had been sent to the nearest services with our 2 small children as I was following in our car), their computer system flagged up a stolen car as it past them on the motor way, but they couldn't do anything about it as they were dealing with us 'more easy targets!'.:mad:0 -

The post office in Asda in Farnborough (Hampshire) is open Sundays. Has been very useful from time to time.0 -
Some places I've stayed, it's pot luck if the PO is open during the weekFight Crime : Shoot Back.

You drove the vehicle untaxed - that's a civil offence. The fact that it was Sunday and you had to drive XXX miles to collect it is irrelevent. I think you got away with it pretty lightly!Happy with my advice? The please use the 'thanks' button vvvvvvvvvvvvv0
