sky plus

I currently have an active sky subscription for phone broadband and tv (more or less all the channels other than sports and movies)
I do not have, nor have any plans to get a HD tv in the near future but would still like to use the benefits that sky plus offers with the recording of shows and series's and pausing of live tv?
I see there are many posts spanning back months and years in forums reference this question but would like to know if I am now able to purchase and utilise an old sky plus bx (from ebay or similar) and just put my current viewing card in?
I dont really want to contact sky themselves reference this as Im sure they will just try and bully me into a HD contract at an extra 10 pounds a month!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you want Sky+ without a Sky sub then you have to pay them £10 a month. Without this your Sky+ box will lose all recording and playback functions and just work as a standard Freesat from Sky box.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • The Sky+ box requires 2 feeds to use it fully, otherwise you can't record one program and watch another.

So you'd need to run another feed from the dish, assuming there is a spare port on the LNB. If not you're looking at a new LNB, though these can be had quite cheaply nowadays.

Once you've done the cabling and got yourself the Sky+ box, you'd need to phone Sky to pair your current card to the new box. If, as you say you have a current TV subscription, there would be no further charges.
