And what is wrong with that?
They may not have dialled an 0845 number to get through. Even if they did, what is wrong with someone standing up for them selves. The shop may be over charging every customer 20p. And that same customer may get over charged 20p every time unless they complain about it.....abgd.
There is nothing wrong with people standing up for themselves - no, just illogical to spend more doing it than the 'complaint' is worth, and the store may have been right.
Sequence that is best - check your receipt before you leave the store, or in the car-park before you return, if not when unpacking - if there is a problem (depending how valuable the 'problem' is) either ring the no on the receipt, or keep the packaging with the barcode and with the receipt see CSD when next in the store.

  • I was waiting at Asda's customer service counter to exchange an item. The customer in front of me was wanting a refund on a multi-pack of Asda's brand crisps. Their complaint? The crisps had no flavour to them. The sales assistant on the counter asked if they had any of the crisps with them. The customer said: no, we've eaten them all (but produced the empty multi-pack packet.)

They couldn't have been that bad then, could they.

Worked for Royal Mail for 30 years - A customer complaint about a postman jumping over a small fence was received at the Leicester office, The postman on the post round was interviewed - A report was entered on his record- It read the postman has been warned that he should stick to the flat and not jump fences , A report would sent to The Jockey Club for going over fences during the closed season if caught again !!! That's Life !

I used to work for a customer services head office department, we'd often get really silly complaints, but I think its because customers were expecting some form or a voucher in way of an apology.

Often (as we didn't just give away vouchers to everyone- the store had to be at fault and in quite a bad way), we'd try to hang up after a 20 barrage or "and the queue was too long, and the staff didn't hand me the handles when putting stuff into a bag, and the door was too far away from my car...." we'd get a "so can I have a voucher then?" and you'd just have to bite your tounge whilst stopping yourself from laughing at the pathetic story and explaining that whilst you were very heartily desperatly and endlessly sorry, a voucher would not be given this time. ("Computer says no" ws always what I wanted to say :D).

It was so common though and the stories were so feeble that I don;t think I remember any fully at all.

I once had a customer bring back a box of tampax saying they keep falling out. Also had lots of customers bringing back things we didn't sell saying that they wanted a refund even had a women come in with fennings brand paint demanding a refund saying she bought it from us last week.it would have been alright only she was in a Wilkinsons store.
We also used to get some great questions like Will these curtains go with my sofa? How long a washing line do I need for my garden? How much wallpaper do I need for my living room? When they were asked the size of said living room they said they didn't know.

Gemmy, it is possible to get a static shock of the screws that hold the plastic cover on a light switch, as the screws are earthed. That is probably what happened in the case you mention.

I think she was trying to make a point that the customer did not get a huge shock. If he did get one then probably the one that you get when you yourself create too much static energy and then you get shock when you touch something.

If that was the case then surely the customer couldn't expect full refund?!

She was trying to make the point that the customer was lying.
You would be suprised how much of a shock you can get from static electricity.
I agree that it should not entitle them to a refund, or a discount (maybe they should start wearing cotton clothing to stop it happening in the future :) )

i used to work in a call centre and was often held personally responsible by idiots who couldnt ever be bothered to pay the phone bill so got cut off- apparently it was *my* fault that they spent the money on booze/fags/prostitutes (seriously....!!) and that I should have made sure that they kept the money aside.

One person even told me that I would have to pay the £85 call out charge from the ambulance service when he would have to phone when his daughter went into labour- my response was "surely 9 months notice is enough to know that you would need to pay the phone bill on time". It was paid that night

There are so many, I could be here all day!

I love the tampax one though, thats put a proper grin on my face :-D)
