I have seen this book on Amazon, its called The Penny Pinchers Book: Easy Ways of Living Better for Less by John Mustoe. I wonder if any of you have read it & if its worth buying ? I've read threads about the Tightwad Gazette but hey thats £20, this book's £6 !!!!! Would be grateful for any advice:confused:

Obtain it - and the complete tightwad gazette (very enjoyable read - tips - inspiration) - through your library for free. If they dont stock it they can order it though where I live I have to pay a fee to do that. Children dont though so my daughter sometimes orders books I might also like to read. At the very worst you'll avoid paying out for a book that you find you dont like.

    I have read both.
But I bought the Tightwad Gazette.
I think that says it all.

The TG is very american, but it is more of a how-to book - ie you can adapt the ideas to your own circumstances - than a hints'n'tips type book. Hope that makes sense.

I have bought both! I used to get the Penny pincher newsletter and it was very informative, loved the recipes but there were only a few in the book.

I bought the Tightwad Gazette, I'm now reading it for the third time :) It's a huge book and more than worth the money it costs which is a rare thing.

I got TWG from the library as well & copied revelant stuff that I knew I would use down. I'm seriously considering buying the book now as I think like Moggins it's a book that I would read again & good to have for reference.

Never heard of the other book. Sounds good too.

I've had the Penny Pincher's book from the library and it OK, but the TG is much, much bigger and better value if you're buying rather than borrowing.
  • I had the Penny Pinchers book too (and the newsletters) but I prefer the Tightwad Gazette and I agree with everyone else that TG is well worth the money as you'll dip into it often - if you are going to compare just with prices alone you get about 10 times the weight with the TG book (the combined edition is as thick as a phone book) than the PP.
I'd look on ebay as well as amazon

That's the only thing I dislike about TG, the sheer size of the book, I have arthritis in my hands and the weight makes it very difficult to read in bed :(
