Hi there,
my wife is currently working 30 hours a week and i am currently not working due to depression.
I currently claim IB and we also both get WTC Both elements.
Would we be entitled to any help with mortgage repayments and also council tax?
Is there anything else we would be entitled to?
Many thanks.

You wont get any help with your mortgage costs and I would be staggered if there was help available for the council tax.0

No help for interest on the mortgage? Why staggered?0

I am guessing you have an income of at least £300 per week (more if you have children). Do you really expect help on top of that?Gone ... or have I?0

Err i am asking because money is tight and if there is any extra help available, 'that we are entitled to'
Why do you think we have too much income? You dont know what little income we recieve along with my wifes job.
Whats with the attitude? Do you detest people who need financial help supporting their family?0 -
For homeowners struggling to pay their mortgage, the Shelter website lists the various schemes set up by the government to prevent repossession, plus steps homeowners can take to prevent or deal with mortgage arrears.
To calculate if you would be entitled to any council tax rebate, put you and your wife's details through the Entitled To website.0 -

It is easy to work out the minimum income you receive from the information given in your first post.
According to other posts, you took out this mortgage after you were on benefits. Why did you do this if you did not feel you had sufficient income to cover your outgoings?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Thank you for the advice0

Your wife is working 30 hours. Which is about £160 if she is only on NMW. Your IB could be guesstimated at around £89.80. So that is about £250 quid a week. You also get an unspecified amount of WTC.
To me that is more than enough for you to be living on. Look into cutting your outgoings. If you have Sky - get rid of it etc.0 -

Experienced posters with knowledge of the benefits system tend to have a great awareness of the various income thresholds that impact on means tested benefits.
Even if your wife is on the national minimum wage, as the other posters have pointed out, your household would get £300 per week in income across tax credits, IB and earned income, (and that's without child benefit, if applicable, which I assume is the case because you mention receiving both types of tax credits).
So the basic info provided by yourself can enable posters to guess that your income could exceed the quite low thresholds that would trigger CT discount, for example. Do double check this via the Entited to website, though.0
