I brought a refurbished Pure Highway from Misco @ £45 incl delivery last June currently its not stocked. Look around the web as there are still some about at that type of price.

I also have the Pure magnetic base external aerial for around £20 extra. The window “stick on” aerial which comes with the unit was pretty hopeless and not recommended. Normal car radio aerials are not very effective at DAB frequencies

Generally very fine reception for main BBC stations, and some national commercial but for local stations, you either have service or don’t as you move around.

As I’m not in any local multiplexer service area, there are no local BBC or commercial stations on DAB . (The local multiplexer licence was awarded to NOW / Arqiva 2007 and due to on air September 2008 but we are still waiting !!!!)

I use a cassette tape adapter for the audio connection to the car system which works fine for me although if you have an ipod (ext) audio input on your car radio then this should be better. The Highway can also rebroadcast on any unused FM radio frequency.

Generally happy with performance and useful for long journeys but doesn’t have the RDS traffic service as FM does. You can however sometimes receive the Highways Agency traffic broadcast if in local multiplexer coverage.

Re DAB+ The Pure web site indicates fully compatable with DAB+ now
  • thanks john, i think i will gamble on one i travel to and from manchester to oldham every day and have friends who have personal DAB's they use without any problems, also will go for the external aerial as well. The cheapest i have seen so far for a new one was £64 at amazon and the same price at pixmania with delivery but will shop around to see if i can find a lower deal.

Which part of the Pure Website are you reading?

As I said earlier, that's not what I read on their website. Here is what the spec sheet for the Highway says:

"UK products receive DAB; non-UK products receive DAB and DAB+. Chargeable DAB+ upgrade available for UK products if UK broadcasts commence."

To me, that says that you will have to pay for an upgrade.
