Cleethorpes and surrounding area

Options
Hi, we are off to Haven Thorpe park on friday for the weekend and one of the days we planned to go to pleasure island, well, now we need something alternative to do!
Anyone have any ideas?
We dont have alot of money, but want the kids to have a nice time, if weathers good we will go on the beach, but is there anywhere really good and well worth a visit?
Any deals for places, and eating out that anyone knows of please?

Im sorry for the late reply, work issues.

Things to do, places to go -

Donna Nook, unsure if the seals are still there
Cadwell Park, a race circuit if anyraces are on.
BBMF, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, about an hour from cleethorpes
The Deep, across the bridge in hull
    Skegness day out
    Mablethorpe day out

    Places to eat -

Im assuming you are self-catering at Thorpe Park, which is a little expensive for food. Luckily enough there is a Tesco Superstore in Humberstone, which is just round the corner.

As you reach the roundabout with Pleasure Island, you will notice a pub called the Trawl, this is a calvery pub which meals are £4 ish (mon-sat) £8 sunday. Ideal for saving a bit of cash.

Also, if you want the cheapest fish and chips around, you need to be heading towards grimsby railway station, you can have fish & chips for £2. You dont actually go into the train station, but with the train station turning on your left, drive through the pedestrian crossing, take your first left at the coach house pub, across the level crossing and the chip shop is there. Otherwise see here

There is a place called Sea Breeze in Cleethorpes next to Flares, but this takes advantage and charges you about £4 for fish & chips. Where for a short 5 min drive you can half your price.

Cleethorpes itself has a Cinema, Bowling Alley, Arcades with the usual bingo. Various bars, pubs, clubs.

Cant really thing of anything else to put,

    Sorry,

    Alias

There is a kite flying club that meets on the beach at the Haven resort at Thorpe Park. They are great to watch, they skim the waves with their power kites, go shooting across the beach on buggies etc. Well worth going to see, I think they are there most weekends and Summer evenings.

There is the Fishing Heritage Centre in Grimsby which the children always enjoy (its better than it maybe sounds ;) )and is quite low cost too. If you visit the Cleethorpes Tourist Information, which is within the library on the seafront, you can pick up a leaflet with a discount voucher in it.

The Pizza Hut is in Grimsby Town Centre which is only 5 mins from the Fishing Heritage Centre too so if you have a voucher you could use that.

Hope the weather stays good for you as the beaches are lovely, particularly if you use the Thorpe Park end rather than where all the amusements are, near the pier.
I've got a little black book with my poems in...

Play Towers behind McDonalds in Cleethorpes if you go on a Saturday morning and leave by about 12.30 its half price. Think I pay about £5 for my two for a couple of hours its the early bird deal.

The fish and chip shop which is just on your left past the Beachcomber after turning left out of Thorpe Park is recommended. There is a food festival at Meridan Park/Point this weekend its £5 for adults and free for children. Rachel Allen is there and Jean Christophe Nouvel (I think) just 2 mins from Thorpe park. Check out Grimsby auditorium web for it. It maybe worth checking if the Wolds Railway is running as once you've paid you can usually ride up and down all day.

Best HOMEMADE pub grub - The New Inn at North Thoresby best to book if you want a table in the dinning room, can also eat in the bar the prawn sandwiches are fab with about 1/2lb of prawns in. There is a Sizzler pub on route to Tesco from Thorpe Park which has been recommended to me.

Fishing Heritage Museum is great, if going there Asda is close by and cheaper than the Cleethorpes Tesco, in fact the Grimsby Tesco by the museum is cheaper than Cleethorpes Tesco.

Rushmoor near Louth has a small farm and outdoor toys. Agree with bloggymum the best beach is by Thorpe Park infact I'm ashamed to admit my youngest got slightly 'redenning' arms there on Saturday, the slight breeze is deceptive.

Seals at Donna Nook are usually November thro till Christmas time.
