Drea,i know you have been given a lot of bad information but you were defending that information, and still are, with comments like "Oh and I did cycle my tank, when did I ever say I didn't?"

Because you CANNOT cycle a tank without a filter! It is the filter you cycle,or at least get the bacteria working and maturing to make the water safe for the fish.In any case it takes up to 5 or 6 weeks, you cannot possibly do it in 2.You need a test kit and additives put into the water. You didn't even think you needed a filter so I'm sorry if i came across as harsh but until several people on here pointed out where you were going wrong, and pointed you to the correct advice,I don't think you believed us.I have been keeping coldwater fish for 24 years and tropicals for 20 so i think i speak with some knowledge. But i don't know it all,far from it,and that is why i belong to Practical Fishkeeping.

    No I was defending myself.

As for cycling a tank, when I got my tank I was told not to have any fish in it for a couple days, to put my "Aquasafe" stuff in the water and let it settle before adding any fish.

Anyway I have already had an offer of them going into someones pond from freecycle. So no need to continue going over old ground really.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

Oh and someone else has a 190 litre tank with no fish yet. Might get them started :)

Hi again. Both options are good.I am genuinely sad for you that you have learnt the hard way that fishkeeping is not as simple as many pet/fish shops lead you to believe.Believe me i have made mistakes too in the past, resulting in the death of fish and it made me determined to help others to try and save them feeling as bad as i did. That was through bad advice too.

I don't want to be a killjoy about the pond idea, generally good but fancy fish such as yours will not do well in a pond in cold temperatures. They were not bred for our climes. The tank idea sounds perfect, and you can then give them the advice you have now picked up so that between you,you can see them live happy healthy lives. And you still have the option of the tropicals. If you ask on the practical Fishkeeping site there will be members there who can advise on the best fish to get.

Good luck and I am sorry again if i seemed harsh.I was more angry at yet again bad advice biing given by those who should know a lot better.
