Evening all
There's a Lidl opening at the end of my road next week and I'm looking forward to saving mucho money shopping there! Looking for recommendations - what's good to buy there? Also - what should I avoid like the plague?!
Thanks!

Hi happydays,
You should get more help with this on the Food Shopping & Groceries so I'll move your thread over there. In the meantime have a look at these older threads:

Lidl is good for some things (I think there's a thread on here somewhere about it) but in many ways it's no cheaper than Asda (my usual). I think the majority of people only use Lidl for specific things rather than main shop. To start you off I buy frankfurters, all own brand dishwasher stuff (tablets, salt and rinse aid), chicken thighs, dried rice noodles, fig rolls, luxury muesli (not the cheapest but highly recommended). Watch out for special offers on veg, gammon and bacon. General advice, shop around and include Lidl!0

Bread mixes for hand or breadmaker - £1 for 500g, makes two loaves and several healthy options (wholemeal, multi grain, sunflower seed, etc.)somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

Its prehaps not cheaper (infact i'm really sorry but i can't remember the price) but a reccomendation on the most amazing and greatest tasting salt and vinegar sticks ever!.
Lidl do some from the brand of Knights.
Its the only salt and vinegar sticks that we have found don't stick in your teeth.
Shamefully myself and my OH did a test.0 -
The Glenview farm wafer thin ham 400g is £1.79 and really tasty,
fresh meat is great in there too, and when its near the best before date they take 30% off always.
Crusti Croc (lovin the name lol) crisps are very tasty and in my opinion are equally as good as Golden Wonder 75p for 6, at the moment £1.85 for 24 packets,
The W5 washing up liguid is good, not sure of the price but is around 60p, lasts just aslong as Fairy.
Fruit and vegetables are good too and sometimes prices are unbeliable, fresh chillis were 22p the other day and better then any supermarket.
They were selling the fresh Lasagna for £1.69 on offer and this is very yummy.
You have to be aware of your prices as sometimes it can be the same as supermarket brand prices, I really dont think you can beat the quality of meat.
I start my shop in Lidl and see what offers are on and then go to the supermarket.
Cakes and bits are not always great tasting i find, but the chocolate caramel squares for 99p are very nice (at the moment 69p on offer) and the bar of chocolate that is 59p is really nice. I am quite addicted to the shop now. Also my husband will often pop along with me and look at all the bits and bobs, he has had some great DIY tools and bits from there.

hi...i find fruit and veg really good...also meat...often 30% off...also nice yogurts and chees....would this store be opening in queens road by any chance ??onwards and upwards0
-
not necessarily cheap but large bags of Crusty Crocs crinkle crisps are just like 'holiday' crisps (does anyone know what i mean?!) oh and the pretzels as well - only 59p i think from memory.. I like their bagged salad big bag for £1 and they have the little plum tomatoes (like cherry but nicer!)0

I won't buy tinfoil or freezer bag's anywhere else, both are stronger than other brand's, They do bag's of chocolate croissant's think there's 10 in a pack they are yummy & so are the little bakewell tart's. Heard lot's of good report's re their chocolate. I liked their nappy's when my daughter was younger.
It's also worth signing up to the website once they have your local store on there as they have special offer's twice a week & some of those are great.
Oh and how can I forget, they do an amaretto style liqueur which is gorgeous.Booo!!!0 -
You might not recognize all the brands, but do not let that put you off trying anything.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
