Sky refusing to close my account

Options
In a couple of weeks I'm going to get Virgin installed for TV, Broadband and phone. I was originally with sky but when they cut me off after a payment was slightly late (It was the first late payment in 10 yrs) After i had made the payment i called them to get my services reinstated and they told me that i would have to pay 2 months upfront before i could get my services back. So i decided that wanted to cancel my account completely and i was still told that I would have to pay a month first before i cancelled. I just received a letter from Virgin telling me to get my account with sky cancelled before they install their own services. Sky are still maintaining that i should pay a month upfront before they can end my account. Has anyone else experienced this???? I'm outside my contract.

Yes, it's now standard for them to ask 2m deposit upfront to restore your service after disconnection. Remember you have to give a month's notice to terminate, so they want that covered.
Since Virgin delivered all their services by cable, it should make no difference if you still have Sky running when they install.

    I'm afraid Mac's correct,
I recently subscribed to Sky but was changing bank accounts, after I cancelled my DDebit because of this I got a snotty letter from Sky demanding 2 months upfront money or they'd cut me off.
This was recieved after I had set up my new DDebit mandate.
Friday I got a letter from them thanking me for staying with Sky.

As to VM insisting you cut off Sky before install, I've done installs with NTL/VM when the Sky was still active even when I've removed the Sky reciever to fit the VM one!
(I even gave your woman a fiver for the Sky box & still got a couple months outta the card before they cut it off! Brucey Bonus!)
