  • A study carried out in the north east provided this info
    Headline findings from the report

It comes as no surprise that alcohol is widely and cheaply available. However, some of Balance’s findings show just how low supermarkets and off licences in the North East are prepared to go to attract customers.
    • Cider is the cheapest alcoholic drink, available in discount supermarkets for just 12p per unit and 14p per unit from the big four supermarkets and off licences (both independent and chains).
    • Own brand lager and bitter (2%, between 0.9 and 1 unit) is available for as little as 22p a can.
    • Cans and bottles of leading brand lager and bitter (1.5 – 1.8 units) are available for less than £1 at most supermarkets – cheaper than a 500ml bottle of a leading cola.
    • Own brand vodka can be purchased for as little as 27p a unit, or £6.98 for an entire bottle (containing 37.5 units).
    • Using the average weekly pocket money of £6.24, young consumers can buy five bottles of dry cider with a combined total of 42 units, twice the recommended safe weekly limit for an adult male, with change to spare.
    • A 500ml can of 7.5% Diamond White Cider, containing the daily safe limit for an adult male, is routinely available at off licences across the region for less than the price of a 500ml bottle of a leading cola.
    • A two litre bottle of cider (containing 8.4units) or a can of leading brand super-strength lager can be purchased for less than the price of a loaf of bread or six eggs.
Depending on your tipple of choice I'd go for either bottled Diamond white or own brand spirits.

I have run out of wine, having drunk six bottles in a fortnight (had help with the first two but still). :(First tip is to go to Tesco, they offer 5% off six bottles so you cannot really purchase less than that if you are a true MSE. Second tip get some Tesco Value sparkling water, spritzers go down reeaaallll easy on a spring evening and much healthier than straight white wine.

Do not buy White Lightening cider: it is the only alcohol I have ever poured down the sink. It tastes like cheap cider with an aftertaste of mouthwash.

I was thinking more along the lines of a drip, that way I don't have to pause to sip whilst on the phone to the various EA's.........

That drip will cramp your style, don't you know that wireless is all the rage? Take your smartphone or laptop out in the garden and handsfree or Skype the estate agent or just get a curly straw if you don't have technology. :rotfl:

Are none of your three properties selling? Do you have wiggle room in the budget to price for a quick sale?

It just takes practice, only last year i was out most nights of the week and 10 pints a night was no problem, now i am married with 3 month old child, 6 is about my limit now, i have a golf holiday coming up in a few months, i really need to get some drinking practice in for that one soon.

    Enjoy

The 3 properties are all on the market for the lowest price reasonable, we are emigrating hence selling, i am past the point of even wanting to try and make any money and short of giving them away........which is tempting!!

NHO - do you think it would be acceptable to wear that whilst conducting viewings- not that we ever have any.......:(

    "give them away"
You mean less than you paid? When did you buy the three of them?

For viewings wear a smile. Clothes also, but the smile is important.
