Has anyone ever used Broadspeed or Uk Car Broker?

Hi all,

About to buy a Renault Megane Coupe Diesel, and the price from UK Car Broker is a lot lower than anywhere else. I'm slighlty concerned at this though as it appears to be a one man company, although cars are UK models, not imports etc.

I've also used Broadspeed to get a quote, which is about £700 more, but this site at least has references from Top Gear magazine, so am a bit more confident. Also it seems that I liaise with a Renault dealer automatically, which I dont do with Uk Car Broker.

Is there any reason to be concerned about ordering from either of these two? They were specifically named on Martin's online car broker comparison on the 'Buying a car' guide so surely they wouldn't be on there if they were dodgy?

I had a look through all the brokers recently and got quotes from both companies you mentioned. If you google UK Car Broker it looks like a bona fide operation but the thing that put me off was that the cars are pre-registered which means you're the 2nd registered owner (which isn't such an issue) and they keep the logbook for between 3-6 months after the sale which was more of an issue for me.

In the end I found autofinders.co.uk were the most competitive for a new/first registered car but I still ended up buying locally simply for convenience (they matched the price)

Thanks for the reply. I'm ok with the car being pre-reg as the saving is huge, but how comes they keep the logbook for between 3-6 months?

Read THIS - I wouldn't be at all happy with the situation. All sorts of potential pitfalls.

Oh wow. Uk Car Broker haven't said to me they need the log book for 3-6 months, but I've not actually put down an initial deposit or seen the full terms and conditions.

If I paid the initial £500 deposit on my credit card, would I be protected in the event that Renault pulled the deal?

    Have your tried http://drivethedeal.com/

You should get a good deal for a new car, no pre-reg and no V5 retention.

Yeah, thanks for the recommendation. I tried drivethedeal but they still come up over £2k more than Broadspeed. I think I will go with them rather than UK Car Broker, because at least everything is going through a UK Renault dealer so less of a risk so might as well pay the slight extra to be protected.

I got my new car through carfile - they put you in touch with the dealer and you deal with them throughout.

I know someone that used Broadspeed and bought a top of the range smart car, plus every extra and saved several thousand and it was through a Smart dealer he was put in touch with was in Liverpool, and they delivered it to his door for no extra charge either!
Thanks to all the competition posters.
