I have plugged my HUAWEI E220 dongle in and i can't connect.

I understand I have to download firmware and/or drivers I am not too sure.

Can someone please explain what I have to do as I have looked around and can't find anywhere to download from.

You can download the firmware and dashboard from here.

    1. Make sure you have your PC and modem turned off for a while, because usually the modem gets hot if you use it, so let it cool well before you start the update.
    2. Take the SIM card out of the modem, then start the PC.
    3. Start the connection manager, it will complain that there is no SIM, and the “Connect” button will be greyed. Close the connection manager window – CLOSE, do NOT just minimize. It will pop up with a message asking whether you really want to close it, click yes.
    4. Start the firmware update program and follow the instructions.
    5. Wait a minute before you press “Finish” when the updating ends.
    6. Turn off the PC. Insert the SIM card back in the modem.
    7. Do not forget to insert the SIM card in the modem !
    8. Start the PC. The version of the firmware listed in the connection manager window should say 11.117.10.03.99

Note that there is an even later version of the firmware(11.313.02.00.01) on the same page, you may wish to use that firmware instead....again, at your own risk. Could turn out to be a Norwegian interface :)

Do I install this from the usb stick and then go through the instructions you have given?

There is no need to carry out the firmware upgrade using the new laptop. It's probably better if you carry them out on a XP machine.

Here are some instructions Vodafone give for upgrading the firmware.

Are you sure that you need to carry out an upgrade? Have you contacted T-Mobile?

Not yet. I didnt think there would be a problem. I just thought that it would be OK. Little did I know it'll prove to be a little bit of a pain!!

    Hi jaymoe,
My friend is having the same problem. He went to buy a new HP desktop pc with Windows 7, having previously used his T-Mobile Web 'N' Walk USB dongle on an Acer laptop with Windows Vista.
I installed the software, but when try to connect it wouldn't recognise the dongle. I guess you are having the same problem.
    Might give T-Mobile a call.

    Yep, having the same problem.

If you call them could you post on here what they say. I don't have a landline as I am only renting so I don't really want to call them until I get back to work.

I do have a T-Mobile hop near me so I might go in there. If I find anything out I'll post on here too.

Donnie, I did everything as instructed but its not working on my Windows 7 Laptop.

So do you now have an 'unlocked' dongle?

Is you version of Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

    Hiya Donny

The Dongle I have is the original one when I signed up with T-Mobile via the Carphone Warehouse.

As for which version of Windows 7 I have I have absolutely no idea. All I know is that it's Windows Home Premium. Does that help.

I am going to head to the Carphone Warehouse a little later and see if they can help me out.
