First issue is identifying said mini then proving its presence at the scene at that time.
Second..well who is really liable? Is it the mini or the highways authority for not ensuring that the highway is kept swept and not a haven for excessive debris?
Your chances are slim but i'd say you have more chance with the latter..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

I think first issue is probably dealt with by the mini being more than likely to have told its insurance company about the incident.
Ah yes..i should read more.
The OP needs to check with the Police to obtain details re the accident as they have,in effect, been a party to it.
They can then make the minis insurers aware that they are making a 3rd party claim.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
We really can do without people like you on these boards.
You started out really helpful, but it just degenerated into a sarcy
nasty post. Had a drink or two have you.
Cant post anything helpful, then jog on mate.
No, he has a valid point, the detail the OP projects is fantastic, considering it comes from a view of the other side of a dual carriageway on which I assume rightly or wrongly, both cars were doing 70mph????:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

But there is no requirement to stop and report an accident unless you are injured. The only legal requirement is to report it within a certain period of time. If the accident was on the other carriageway, then it is a REALLY bad idea for the average motorist to stop and try to assist. The OP has already posted that the gravel hitting the window gave them a bit of a shock, so they probably weren't thinking clearly about it at the time.
I didn't mean stopping to assist, I just meant for one of the people in the car to have called the police and emergency services to notify them.BSC support number 158

Thanks for all your responses and advice, I gave the police a call who took my details, I then received a follow-up phone call to collect more details and they've sent a report of the accident to my insurance company who can make their inquiries. However an officer is going to come out tomorrow to check the damage of the car and interview me to ensure I'm not falsely claiming.
Obviously I wouldn't have to be doing any of this if I'd stopped but as I said, I was in real shock and by the time I'd come to my senses the police would have probably already been on their way.Penny-Pincher0 -
Probably going to caution you for leaving the scene of an accident, Its a mad world.
I came back from holiday & noticed some minor damage to the door on my car, Some builders from over the road said a car reversed into it & they took the number.
When i went to report it the policeman on the desk said i had commited an offence by not reporting it within 24 hours and was i sure i wanted to report it.
YES i am sure. Eventually they prosecuted the guy for failing to stop.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Go back to the police station and inform the guys superiors he needs retrained.
Twice I have reported accidents to cover myself incase of any comeback/as evidence for my insurer. Both times i was asked if anyone had been injured. Both times I said no, both times I was told that I didnt have to report it then and they wern't interested.0 -

Unfortunately thats how it is, the copper on the beat or in the car doesn't make these decisions, our politicions limiting directives do:(:(:(
