Ive only had the car a year and it had a new MOT on it so no haven't had it serviced since buying it.

Well if you don't get it serviced what do you expoect? If the last owner did the same thing it might not have had a service for years!!!

Servicing is important. If too lazy to DIY at least get a garage to do it :)

Oooops sorry thought it didnt look right!!! girly moment! :o

Ive only had the car a year and it had a new MOT on it so no haven't had it serviced since buying it. It runs well but seems to be "missing" a bit. I will just go and have look at the test results and get back to you

    thanks

"missing" as in misfiring? If so its hardly surprising its failing on emissions. Guess where the unburnt hydrocarbons from the unfired strokes go...

Could be as simple as spark plugs. Again I am guessing this is a basic "servicing" issue and not a serious fault.

its not misfiring, just sounds like the timing is out.

Just need it ti pass this MOT as i am part exchanging it in 2 months for a new one. My DH is going to give it a DIY service over the weekend and i am going to pop it down to the local garage on Monday for them to have a look.

Meaning? Backfiring, running hot, pinking or what?

Don't bother with the service, if you are getting shut, all you want is the mot. Fit a new air filter as suggested and rag the nuts off, as in "drive it vigorously", the engine for 1/2 hr before you take it back for an emission test. Are you in for a free retest?

If the it feels like the timing is out, (it won't be as it's ecu controlled) you have bigger issues, air temp sensor water temp sensor etc etc etc. Go with the option I've given to start with. ;) :money:

Air filter has to be severely dirty to affect the emissions, and would show an increase on the fast idle as opposed to normal usually.
Long term misfire can have affected the coil, or the cat.
What's the temperature reading on the emissions sheet?
Put all the figures up if you can.

No, not at all just as the OP suggested, not serviced, as in not changed when it should have been????.

You are right about the figures Mikey, just how far over are the hydro carbons???

  • How much are you trading it in for?

I may be interested in the beetle in present condition.

Lot less hassle, cash in the hand.
