I assume you mean a wireless broadband dongle? Your laptop most probably already has built in w-fi.
If you use a dongle with a UK SIM in Spain then you will be clocking up horrendous roaming charges, don't even think about it unless you want a huge bill. If you do the same thing on PAYG then the credit will be used in no time.
Either buy a local dongle or SIM or use lfree ocal wi-fi hotspots.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I am looking for the same answer, I am going to Fuerteventura in 3 weeks and want to take my laptop. I dont want to carry it around with me so wouold prefer a connection in my apartment. I have heard Spanish Vodafone dongle is good but cannot make head nor tail how much it "really" costs from a translated Vodafone.es.

If you have access to a computer with Windows XP, you can purchase this ZTE MF626 for £18.99 minus a £10 rebate from TopCashBack/Quidco and 'unlock' it using the instructions found here.

Then you can just purchase a SIM card in Spain.

So if I did that I could go into a Vodafone shop in Fuerteventura and ask for a sim card? They wouldnt make me buy a vodafone dongle?

Just go to an independent phone shop there and buy any local SIM you like-doesn't have to be Vodafone.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Just looked at the unlocking instructions, I get the impression that I have to have the sim ready to set up. Am I right or am I wrong (probably the latter)

Edit realised too that I have windows 7 not xp

Wrong. You are just getting the modem ready to accept any SIM. Once you buy the SIM pack, there should be details for what to enter for Internet access.

You need to have access to an XP machine only for the unlocking.

Another option if you haven't got access to an XP machine is to purchase an O2 USB Modem for £9.99, as they don't tend to lock their handsets and modems.

If it is locked you can just send it back. It's possibly the better option, as O2 probably has drivers updated for Windows 7.

Ordered my O2 usb modem for £9.99 and asked if it was unlocked, the chap wouldnt say it was unlocked for any network as he couold get in trouble, but said its the same as their phones, which are unlocked. So......who knows who in Fuerteventura, or I suppose Spain is the same, can give me the best deal sim. I want light browsing and to use Skype.

Tisha, sorry if I have hijacked your thread but I hope it helps you too.
