  • Just noticed the main article on buying from abroad lists Costco.com as doing international shipping however this is not actually correct. I have this both confirmed directly from a customer service rep when trying to find out how to order stuff being a costco member in the UK for US address delivery. And also for a direct UK purchase for UK delivery and the sad fact is at the moment they dont take international orders.

Chooka I use sierratradingpost.com for some clothes and trainers etc as they offer lifetime returns and international shipping. Check google for sierra trading post and coupon or discount and should find a number of codes for extra 10% off. They have a pretty diverse range of stuff so it depends what your looking for. Probably wont have much in the way of designer dresses and gucci handbags though.

eebie.jpgaabie.jpgDoes anyone know of any websites to buy trainers from america?

    thanks :o

What kind of trainers do you need? There are so many types available that you'd need to be a bit more specific.

I could buy a ridiculously cheap American TV and have it work over here? Sam's Club (part of Wal Mart) had a 50" Philips HD Plasma TV for $1800. Tell me where you can buy a Philips 50" HD Plasma screen over here for roughly £900!!!

I'd rather view it as a reasonably priced TV in the USA vs a ridiculously overpriced UK TV ;)

The only problem I see is the cost of shipping the TV back to the UK + whatever the good old customs & excise folks feel like adding to the cost.

I had a camera sent over for my mother and they duties to be paid (45 quid) on a $135 camera were ridiculous

Forgot to say that car parts are amazingly cheap in the USA compared to in the UK/EU if there are any budding home mechanics here :D

I am will be going to Vegas soon and I wanted to check 2 things are creative Zens and ipods significantly cheaper? Also will I have any compatibility problems in using either of them in the UK?

I understand I will require a plug converter but that aside is there anything else I need to consider.

Also how much cheaper is Tiffany jewlerry?

    Cheers

A friend recently bought an ipod and paid about half the UK price for it.

Have you looked at the Tiffany website? They will give you an idea of prices. Certainly when I was last in NY they had some great deals and with the exchange rate heading towards $2 to the £1 you'll do well.

Two things to remember. If you're buying anything in the US check if you have an international guarantee in case of a fault. Secondly, anything electrical make sure the power supply will work from a UK voltage. look on the unit and it should show input 115/240v. Most do but some do not.

    Regards,
    Art.

If you are going to be in LV then check out Frys Electronics:

    www.frys.com

They sell allsorts of stuff including iPods and the like - I'm a Creative Zen and Zune user personally but my GF uses the iPod.

Frys have some cracking bargains on electronics depending on the that particular weeks offers. I've not been to the LV outlet but when I visited the Portland store it was huuuuuuge ;)

Don't worry about the voltage issue/plug style too much as many of these small players charge using USB as well

I've bought all my electronic goodies overseas (mainly USA) and used them all over the world, the only thing I've ever needed to use is a pin convertor for the plug and you can get them shipped very cheaply from www.dealextreme.com $0.99 ech from memory (http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.403) - they also do voltage convertors for very little money $6.99 or so shipped (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2228) but I think you are better off buying a proper heavy duty metal voltage transformer/converter.
