DougWeller wrote:Has anyone here ever been stopped going through the Green Lane of UK Customs?
I travel almost every week to and from the UK, and I have only ever been stopped once, that was because I had a shopping bag with items in it with shapes such that they may have looked like cigarette cartons.
The customs people are entirely concerned with cigarettes and booze.
I have brought computers, ipods, shoes, all sorts of stuff in. I have never even been sniffed by a dog, nor had my bags x-rayed. I believe you could smuggle just about anything into the UK. Not that I recommend it.0 -
well, you might not have been stopped but a friend of mine recently was (going through security though, not customs) and they confiscated half of her clinique goods (though oddly not all of them?!).
odd that you can't take a bottle of cleanser/shampoo on a plane but polonium 210 gets through security ok :eek:0 -

Art wrote:There's good news and bad news.
The good news is that Windows XP bought in the US will work here.
The bad news is that you won't evade tax if it is sent from Ontaria - unless your friend can say it is a present on the declaration. Then you might be lucky.

Art.
To be honest the amount of savings to be made last time I checked I could fly out there buy it & still save  !!!! (if I had a passport that is :rotfl: lol)I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
Sorry if this has already been mentioned but Amazon.com is a lot cheaper than Amazon.co.uk for some books, even after paying the shipping charges.
We bought Nigel Calders book about Marine Diesel Engines, a very large hardback, for around £21 including shipping from Amazon.com and couldn't find it for less than £30 on any UK book site.

poggle99 wrote:I've seen a few messages on here about DVDs that mention the region 1 problem, but not the PAL vs NTSC question.
I have a multi-region DVD player, but my TV is not NTSC-compatible (relatively old, small and basic!).
Does anyone know if this is a problem? Can anyone confirm that they have successfully bought and played back Region 1 DVDs on their PAL TV?
There are a series of kids' DVDs that aren't available in Region 2 that I'd like to order but didn't want to throw my money away....
Cheers,
Rachael
Some DVD players will convert an NTSC signal to PAL, alas not all of them do.
Regardless of the ability to play Multi-region disc's, this should be taken into account unless your TV manual specifically states it can display NTSC.
Most new TV's can, again, not all. If you've lost your manual to check, and can't find the info on Google, try any Menu button on you remote for tuning purposes, they usually display the signal type within the menu.0 -

I've just bought a 400d, and did look at the States, but there wasn't much in in between the States and our own online prices (considering postage charges etc).... ended up getting mine on the High St from Jessops through their price match promotion... paid £478 for the camera with the 18-55mm lens kit....0 -

Thanks to SayaF for the https://www.Threadless.com tip. I've just ordered two very funky and unusual T-shirts for less than $30 (around £15) including international shipping.
By the way, anyone interested in the new Jackass Number Two movie might be interested to know that the DVD will be released on St Stephen's Day (which coincides with Boxing Day this year) from https://www.amazon.com for $19.99. Anyone who likes this sort of thing will probably want to do a search for the R-rated version, not the unrated one.
Spend another $5.01 to get free shipping but I'm not sure whether this is international.0
