I noticed on a website anything over £125 is subject to tax when brought in here so be careful.
Also I bought a book on amazon there for my father which hadn't come out yet here. got it within a fortnight-brilliant.0 -

I have a multi-region DVD player, but my TV is not NTSC-compatible (relatively old, small and basic!).
Does anyone know if this is a problem? Can anyone confirm that they have successfully bought and played back Region 1 DVDs on their PAL TV?
There are a series of kids' DVDs that aren't available in Region 2 that I'd like to order but didn't want to throw my money away....
Cheers,
Rachael
I have no problem playing R1 DVDs on a PAL TV. Naturally I have a multi-regional DVD player.
This may vary according to your equipment so why not buy one cheap DVD first to check it out? Can you borrow a R1 DVD to check it out?

Yes, the official value of goods you can bring back with you is £145. This is being increased next year to £290. Perfume and cigarettes are in addition to this figure.
One thing to bear in mind is that if you are stopped and you have exceeeded the official values you can be charged duty on the full amount and not just the bit that is over the limit.

It's Kipper the Dog - the only thing you can get in the UK (on DVD) is the "Classic Collection", which we have already.

The exchange rate would seem to make it very worthwhile buying digital cameras from the US at the moment especially as you don't pay import duty on digital still cameras (according to the government site here http://72.14.221.104/search?q=cache:7A-9dV9yNTkJ:customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/downloadFile%3FcontentID%3DHMCE_PROD_009989+import+duty+digital+cameras+UK&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=16) but Amazon won't ship them internationally and I have no US based friends who I can get to ship to me.
I'm after a Canon EOS400d (or Rebel XTi as it's known in the USA) - does anyone have any specific advice they can give me about where to buy from to save me some money?
cheers,

RachaelAll other kids DVDs lose their appeal. I think almost all mine are R1 I'll check tonight and the spec of my TV.
