Have been a bit naughty this weekend, borrowed a camera and never got round to ebaying anything
Went to a boot sale for the first time in years and got a lovely pine wine rack instead. OH went to get some golf clubs as he wants to start learning, which was great as he managed to find a good set for under £40,instead of buying them brand new at goodness knows how much, which is what he would have done if I had not nagged him so much!
I have decided to try and smarten up our house a bit, I have always felt that we would not stay that long, so have done bits to the house but often never finished them.
I've decided to decorate the house as if it was my dream house, if that makes any sense. I have never wanted to do that much, its always been fairly plain, as I've never thought we'd stay that long.( currently 9 years), But if we are going to stay and pay the mortgage off, I thought I'd put my stamp on it, OH doesn't quite have the same taste, but seems to be happy to let me get on with it!
Obviously all this will be done in a very MSE way :money:
All I have managed to do this weekend is one VO survey .75p
Will try and do better with the surveys and get started on ebay this week :AMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Men don't really like to get involved in choices of decoration and even if they did we normally talk them round to our way of thinking.
I keep looking at my bedroom and thinking it needs a makeover but I cant be bothered!
ebay is easy to get around really. If you have any questions you can PM me. Its free listing today but if it sells you do have final value fee to consider and paypal fees but its straightforward.
You should give it a go. just make sure you cover your postage costs as I have been short a couple of times when guessing how much post would be.MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987
EMFD was Feb 32  NOW Dec 2013 its Dec 2016
MF new target Dec 16 REACHED!! :j0 -
Well, I have been a bit more successful with my surveys :
one poll = 40p
lightspeed = 180 points
I am only a small survey away from getting £10 from VO:j
OH won on the lottery bonus ball at work,, not sure the exact amount, but he said he will pay the £50 deposit for the kids party, Yay! I will need to find the remaining £50. Decided not to pay the extra to feed them there and will do party food at home first.
Am filling my mortgage pig as and when I can to try and get together some extra for julys op.
Am also waiting to find out how much credit limit we will get for the new 0% cc we have applied for, hopefully enough to cover what we owe when our current 0% finishes, best of all though is its got no transfer fee
I thought i would also try and do a couple of no spend days each week, will see how it goes, but Pammy seems to do quite well with this.
Tomorrow I shall make a loaf, and do a big batch cook in the slow cooker,i have been getting a bit lazy lately, there is a fab bakers just round the corner:o
I have got round to updating my signature as well, doing all of these little things makes me feel like I am doing something, keeping the momentum going, I am very impatient and tend to get bored easily, and like everyone says its a marathon not a sprint.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I had a good day today,
- managed to get 50p of onepoll surveys
- baked fairy cakes for kids
- batch cooked cottage pie, with lots of lentils
- found old popcorn maker to do kids instead of crisps for lunch sometimes
- loaf cooking in the breadmaker now
- Had a no spend day!
- caught up with lots of ironing and had a bit of a tidy up.
- Will have a read in a minute of how to start selling on ebay.
- shhh, found £5.00 in OH jeans in the washing, and put it straight in the mortgage pig

I was wondering how many of you MFWs are overpaying on the mortgage so you can buy an even bigger/better house when you have finished. It seems that there are two different ways of looking at becoming mortgage free, those that want the security of no debt and being financially better off, and those that are doing this as a means to an end,so they can one day own their dream house, which may be otherwise out of reach. I am asking as I can't decide which of these I am. It does not stop me wanting to work hard to become MF, but knowing the end goal may help a little.
I know what you mean we cleared our mortgage just before my 42nd this year, as I wanted to be debt free. Wife had other ideas and we now move into a bigger house with a new 200K mortgage in septmeber. But on the plus side it has a huge garden for me to look after - Joy - NOT....:mad:0 -
hello just thought i would put an update on with how my overpayments are going.
thanks for everyone's ideas and this week we are starting to do the virtual saving! i just transferred £15 to a rainy day saving account which is online and only ever has between 20 and 50 pounds as we keep dipping into it or dont put any in(if that makes sense!).
from now on i have decided to transfer any money between £2 and £10 each time i check my banking (usually 2x week) this stops me going to the garage to buy wine or chocolate so probably wont miss a penny!
started putting money for each outgoing into separate envelopes. this is an eye opener and really focuses my mind! went to the supermarket for newspaper and milk and bought nothing else( unheard of !!)
also put cash for petrol in envelope for me and my husband to stop the buy the extra treat etc every time we get petrol. (especially my husband who likes coffee take aways and pastries )
also went on a camping trip with the kids last week and totally stuck to my budget for food and going out etc. normally once the money had run out i would go to a cash point or use debit card, kids were moaning they wanted another game of pool and another slush puppy. i showed them my purse which had 45p left in it and they never asked again and that is the amount i came home with (pat on the back as i probably would have got another £20 out in the past)to be mortg free by jan 2017 (£163,000)reduced to:rotfl: 8 year term.
mortg o/p: apr£300, may£300, june£300 :j
food budget:£200 month
virtual saving:£10 every time i check balance online (usually 2xwk ):p0 -
You sound like you're making really good progress. I keep saying I'm going to take out the money for food/diesel etc in cash and use it for the month, but it never seems to happen. I will definitely try and do it next monthMummy to 3 fabulous boys all under 4 :eek:0

sorry to bump but i have a credit card with a £500 limit, i use this for petrol and food every month so i know i cant overspend, then pay in full.
kills two bird as limits my spending and will keep credit score ticking over as paid in full every month!0 -
Hi Bobbybobby, I also draw my cash out once a week and try to put aside envelopes for school dinners/petrol etc. I have recently started using a seperate purse for food shopping so I can keep up with how much I am spending per week without going through receipts, etc trying to seperate food spends with everything else.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
