Hello newgirly, I think I will join you on operation declutter. The children are back in school next week and the desk is covered in random clutter and school books gathering dust (evidence of the diligent study undertaken this holidays -NOT ;)).

Well it's the 8th and I think I've already blown the steps challenge, I keep forgetting to wear the fit bit :o The alcohol free part is still all good , and the food is not to bad either (except for a few left over roses yesterday!) spending is also fine so far.

Dh has gone to work again today, I'm going to stay in and do a roast, more washing and re arrange the conservatory. Sounds thrilling :rotfl: I dry clothes in there and am fed up with looking at it all so thought I'd move it up to the loft room as then I can put a couple of our tub chairs in there that are currently down the garden. It can be another seating area, I've reserved a sale rug in Argos to go in there too to warm it up a bit as it's usually freezing even with the radiator on!

Operation declutter and organise the house better is starting :D

You're only one week in and can easily make up the steps lost this week, NG. :)
    Great plans NG.
The research is that small houses provide better family relationships. Also bigger houses are expensive to heat, harder to clean et.c.
I am looking for a smaller house (if I ever move).

I would have said the opposite would be true. In a small house you're going to see each other all the time, potentially be taking up one another's space, also perhaps not have the space for interests. The reason I don't mind being here with my parents is the fact I would not have to see them at all if I didn't want to. We can prearrange to meet up / walk dogs etc. but if we don't want to meet one day we don't have to.

You do have a point re. running costs, though and council tax (nearly £3,500 p/a   ) ... if you cannot tell I hate council tax. As for cleaning - pay someone, life is far too short. :)

You clearly have not lived with teenagers Alex, no danger of seeing too much of them they hibernate in their bedrooms ;) unfortunately we only have the option of living in a normal house, so do occassionally bump into each other :rotfl::rotfl:

I'm glad you feel the need to have a cleaner as I used to be one, it's a growing trade and doesn't pay too badly here!

Roast cooking at the moment and I've spent the day clearing and cleaning the conservatory, cream tub chairs washed and I put some new bits on the cc to make it more usable (not from budget but from planned savings) 2x beige velvet cushions £3.99@ a rug £9 (reduced from £30) 2x long curatains to go across the front £9.99@ reduced. We now have a second sitting area and it looks good :T

Not sure what is abnormal about any house, NG?

We have a cleaner and send off laundry for ironing, my parents do the same, though they have a gardener too. In my opinion life is too short to be spending time every week on these tasks but I understand some prefer to do these tasks themselves. I don't like washing my car but wouldn't pay for someone else to do it as I'd be annoyed if they scratched it.

Yes, there are people who make a lot of money from setting up cleaning companies. Opportunity for you, perhaps? :)

  • After this weekend I am right behind the flat idea.
Letting my 5yo help with painting the wall was not wise.
Alex we have a cleaner - well a vacuumer. You have not seen the devastation one man one Labrador and three kids can cause!

I meant normal sized - or average size if you prefer Alex :p

I guess we could afford to pay for some chores to be done now, but for most of our married life it's been more of a heat or eat situation. If I worked full time I might, although as a naturally lazy person a bit of physical labour does me good;)

Oh dear shs, decorating kids can be very counter productive :rotfl:

More of an edge of seat than snuggle situation kittenkirst :D

My heated airer broke a few months back and after a lot of deliberation I decided last week to replace it, about to buy it I mentioned to the sales assistant in Lakeland I'd had mine a few years and it had broken and she said return it, so today I did and they replaced it with no receipt which saved me £110  well done Lakeland :T

Daily steps over 11k today, will try and remember to track it if possible , weigh in tomorrow morning and I don't think I have lost anything :o
