Thanks for the post Tilly, you are right! my problem is that I still do have the odd splurge but its unplanned and I am always playing catch up. I will definatly try and plan for the year rather than the month as I have in the past. 2012 will be an expensive year as we are going away twice and its dh's 40th and I am still trying to persuade him that we don't need to pay for 50 people to get in the club we are going to as well as hire a london bus,, especially as we don't have ANY money for this, he really is'nt a natural MFW, however I have a good few months to try and lower his planned spending.

The treat pot is a good idea though, only problem I can see is it disappearing on the kids and not us, its how things usually go in our house:rotfl:

  • Hi Newgirly, just a thought on your DH 40th birthday. What about if he were to say no gifts at all, but ask them to put the money to going to the club or whatever he decides to do? That way they still get to celebrate with him but won't have to spend on a gift and an entrance charge; you won't be left with the entrance bill on your own and finally he won't wonder how he will ever get through so many after shaves, cufflinks etc. Not sure whether it would work but just a thought perhaps?

    Best wishes Tilly

Thanks tilly, it is a possibility I will talk to dh and see what he thinks.

Yesterday I posted my revised SOA with a few more allowances for groceries and treat money, I need to speak to first direct about a mortgage now as we can apply 6 months in advance. I think I have decided against offset as the rate is higher than their repayment, and I thought why not go for repayment but extend the term back up to 25 years which will allow much more room for flexability , a cross between the two if you like.

  • Hi Newgirly, the provisional offer we have from FD is 1.58 above base rate for an offset. I know they seem to have so many rates it's difficult to compare but it seemed a good deal to me.

It's hard to know which route to take but we agreed an offset but also making capital repayments regularly so that we get both benefits. This made both of us feel much more comfortable, may be worth talking to them again perhaps.

Good luck with your discussions and SOA.

    Tilly

Its been another busy week, the twins and I all have colds, I have made a bit extra this week doing some one off cleaning jobs, yesterdays was the hardest though. Anyway, today I have a friend for lunch and I have made homemade leek and potato soup and even have the breadmaker going for the first time in ages.

The whole house needs a clean and lots of washing to do. Tonight I am going for dinner with some girlfriends but hopefully not a late one as I am shattered at the moment. Dh is very busy at work and yesterday even managed to do a 23 hour day, beating his own record, unpaid after the normal 8 hr day though. I suppose all the hard work will pay off one day

Right I'm off to turf the cat off the ironing pile and do some work, will check in later if I get time.

It has been a manic week, I managed to earn quite a bit this week but unfortunatly that paid for my xmas meals out, so no better off really. Dh has been seriously overdoing it, and had to pull over on the way to work feeling ill yesterday. I went in to visit him at work yesterday and spent a good few hours having a clear up as it was rather messy(massive understatement!), but he really needs a few days off to sleep and I know that won't happen.

Today I forgot to defrost the chicken I had in the freezer so have gone and bought everything ready done from mr i this morning, so will cook it all when the kids get back from football. I have masses of ironing to do as i have felt run down with cold all week plus busy working and going out, today is the day it needs to be tackled so I don't start the week behind again.

I would like to find at least one day that I can make my plans for next year, I know it sounds a bit sad but I want to do shopping budget, meal plans , look into getting food more organised ie. maybe a veg box delivery/meat from costco/ one off mr t delivery per month etc. plus earmark different accts. for the yearly purchase budgets like car ins, open isa's for the kids, do some more reaserch on the op calculator, make plans how i will up my income and catch up on lots of diaries.

I am off to start the ironing, will come back to read soem diaries later.

All ironing done yesterday, now a ton of washing to do so it all starts again. I am also going to the shopping centre today to get dh's cards for his staff as ours (for our friends and family) are not posh enough, I'm slightly insulted , but as long as he pays its ok I guess.:p

Last night afetr about 3 hours of research I ordered a veg box /fruit bag and eggs from riverford organics to be delivered this thurs. Total cost around £23. I won't normally get thast much if it does work out well I might just get the veg, I'm hoping it will inspire me to cook different meals. I have upped the budget for food next year to £300pm for 5 of us plus 2x cats and 1 dog, so I want to cut down the processed meats that the kids get often and cook almost everything, we don't seem to eat as healthily as we used to, I will report back on thurs whats in the box and if it seems good value, I normally but value fruit and veg so this will be dearer but hopefully encourage us to eat better.

Other than that I am feeling very xmassy today as its the last week of school :D:xmastree::xmassign:

:wall: I am an idiot. I have checked my current acct online and noticed my 0%cc DD has not been taken, the reason is that last month I cancelled it and set one up for a lower amount which was returned as the acct no was wrong so I paid it in branch just in time, however I forgot to set up a new DD.:(

My 0%cc is now on standard rate of 17.9% I think the best option is to transfer the balance quickly to dh's virgin CC which he still has which has a one of fee off 2.98% and 0% until feb2013 and set up a dd to clear the whole balance in that time.

So all in all I think it will cost a months interest around £50, plus a transfer fee of £100.
