No hardworking partner - all the long hours are mine!!
My old job gave us crackberries but they didn't front up the data/email charges. So that was for calls only and I always made a habit of turning it off once I was having dinner/out/finally having downtime.

This job I've started looks like they have their email on there. I actually set up a limited company for contracting and bought a crackberry for that, before I got this job; luckily the company think this is my personal number (new work phone won't be with me until next week) so they have no idea what my personal Moby number is!!
My challenge will be to manage their expectations that I won't be answering all day!!!
They seem to like to start late and finish late - I start early and work to about 6 and then be able to quit for the day ... At least starting a Diploma may help as I will want to get to class in Monday evenings!!!

But obvs I will need to be a bit flexible as the hike in pay from my old job is going to help me crunch that mortgage down!!!

    Hiya Gally,

I now have visions of all the hardcore junkies combing the fields for the elusive crackberry fruit. I used to get the lecture a lot from Moyra about working too much (and, from your posts, I did nothing like what your husband does). Even though I enjoy the work I do, spending time together and with friends and family is far more important in the long run and, despite me cutting back on the additional hours, I don't actually feel all that much less productive. Can't say I'd be looking forward to the impending rant - I got enough to worry me over when your roulette numbers didn't bother hitting!!

    Cheers,

    Billy

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: It won't be a rant Billy as that wouldn't work. He'd storm out (or at least try to - I have a habit of locking doors & putting car keys down my cleavage before I 'have words' ;)). I tell him he'll die a lonely old man found dead surrounded my piles of newspapers (free ones only as he's too mean to buy them :o). Can't use the 'eaten by cats' as he doesn't like them :D. I know how to get through if I choose my moment right ;).

Another member of the workaholic OH's club here! Mostly I just worry about DH's health, and I know he lies awake worrying about work sometimes. The main time it annoys me is when we are out for a meal in a nice restaurant and he thinks it's ok to send emails or answer calls! I get really narky with him whenever he does this, especially if we are on holiday or the weekend.

Having said that, I wonder how many of us would be doing so well on the MF front without the income that our hardworking partners bring in?

 to the restaurants, me too . As for the MF aspect - well, it's partly because I know he's burning himself out that I'm so desperate to get the mortgage paid off so that when he does get to that stage (or, less likely, sees the light :p) we can naff off. No doubt about it, he does it for love, not for money.

Blimey, I've really hit a nerve here!

Looks like I'm not the only one married to a workaholic. Well I am typing all by myself tonight as dh has just gone to bed , (it's 8.39pm) and I have had very strict instructions to wake him at 10.30pm. When he will go to work, dropping the dog at his parents on the way as they have her while we are away.

I normally don't make a fuss, but it's not a new thing its always been this way, just now getting a bit worse. I tried to talk to my parents today as my mum has the same problem with my dad, and the respose I got was there is no alternative, if the work needs doing thats it.

DH does not own the company though, he is the manager with approx 25% ish shares in it, although no profit this year :o His pay for the 9 1/2 hours a day he gets paid for is good, but for the hours he actually works is a different matter altogether.
Don't get me wrong , I would not be pleased with the situation if the money was rolling in, but at least it would give us more options hopefully in the future, and maybe an earlier retirement or lots of nice breaks in the meantime.

I tried to not make a fuss today over it, but I know already that he is taking work away with him to devon. One one hand I feel very sorry for him , on the other hand I'm livid!

Anyway grans 80th went ok today, what a lot of work though, I think she enjoyed it although she did seem to be a bit dissapointed that she didn't go for a pub lunch with my mum (our cover story to get her there!) Oh well, we did our bit.:D

Holiday preperation is going very slowly at the moment. DH still at work. Most clothes packed , but still about 3 or 4 hours work for me to do for dh to, so his friend can collect it later.

I am so tired, but have so much to do still, i really want an early night as its a long drive tomorrow and i'm doing all the driving. Our quickest journey time in the past was about 5 hours , longest nearly 9.

I prefered going away in our old 7 seater as well, room to move a bit, our new car is a mid size hatchback which is not as good for 3 kids on long journeys. I might have dd in the front with me as dh will probably sleep all the way and I'll get bored.

Anyway, will probably take the laptop for the kids to watch dvd's on at night , so will check in later on in the week.

I hope you get it all done and get some sleep. That kind of drive is awful. I don't think I could do it.

Hope it is a lovely break, anyway if i don't see you again before you go.

    Have fun. xxx

Still not much further on, so tired am off to bed soon. Will not be leaving that early tomorrow I think.

Have taken a couple of cases round my parents to go in their car tomorrow and whilst I was chatting my dad pinched my car and filled it up with a whole tank of petrol, what a star :A

Dads like that are great, aren't they? Mine is lovely too, and so generous.

Have a lovely break - hope the driving goes well, the kids behave, and the traffic is lighter than you expect.
