    wealways used mixed spice and the cheapest white bread/stale leftovers.

    I think Mixed Spice is the cinnamon pudding type stuff for cakes etc while allspice is savoury.

    I love bread pudding. My mam uses to use bits of stale cake as well as bread in it so last time I made it I put in bits of leftover birthday sponge cake. Also sprinkled sugar over it before baking to give a nice crunchytop.
