TV Licensing Idiots.....

Purchaed a second TV, had to fill in a form for the above. Our TV license is in my partners name, simple.

No, the TV licensing idiots have now written to me 3 TIMES to ask me to pay for a license.

OR

If there is already one in force in someone elses name at my address I can ring an 0870 (0870 mind you) number to tell them.

WHY CAN`t THEY JUST TYPE MY ADDRESS INTO THEIR DAMN COMPUTER

Because they dont know if the property is a block of flats or a single dwelling etc. There certainly also used to be cases that if you have multiple "families" living in a single dwelling each with their own TVs they would need each need their own licence.... with different names they had no idea if you were one family or not.

Why not just call the number and tell them?

Why not cross through the demand and write "licence held for this addres in the name of mrs x, number 123456789". Post it back in their reply envelope.

What's the 0870 number, as there are some 0800 alternatives on the saynoto0870.com website?

I agree it's annoying. I had the same thing last year (I'm pretty sure I just threw the letter at my boyfriend mumbling "You'll have to deal with it" as I didnt want to call the 0870 number myself as I'd get too annoyed lol).

He either called them, or we ignored them and they went away. Either way, if you've had three letters now, maybe a phone call will prevent an unwanted knock at the door at an inopportune time?

Have a look and see if there's a freephone alternative number......take care.

Throw the letters in the bin, they won't bother listening to anything you say anyway. They ignore letters too.

I agree with Unicorn. They probably won't take any notice if you tell them there is already a licence for the address. Their 'computer' has spotted an opportunity for TVL to get some revenue. No need to panic, just check up the FAQ on...

Definitely agree. My granny moved house, wrote several times to explain and just kept receiving threatening (standard) letters. They only apologised when she threatened to take the matter to a 'higher authority' (is there one?). The silly thing is, she is 82 and entitled to a free license.

These letters were really quite aggressive - I was shocked. As she said, lucky she is of sound mind, other elderly people could have been really distressed by it.

Personally I would write once and then ignore them. If they want to investigate me, they'll find all is above board, so I've nothing to worry about.

yeh ive moved in to a my 1st house and havent got a tv. They are threatening legal action if i dont ring there 0870 number or send a letter to them. Why should i pay out to say that i havent got something...shouldnt it be up to them to say if i have?? i would have minded if they put a SAE with there letter or give me a freephone number. So far i have recieved 12 letters in a year each one worse than the last. Hope they come soon so i can prove i have no tv at all (but i doubt they will believe that either)
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

If any of you are students and you go home to your parents over the summer, apparently you can get a bit of a refund for your TV licence:)
    Happy to be happy
  • personally, I am with the "Binners". Bin each letter - or keep them for when Radarman pops around and asks "do you have a TV licence" - as you answer "yes", you can lob the letters at him and slam the door.

    :)
In the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?
  • I had a recent run in with the tv licence people. My licence was in my girlfriends name so i asked them to transfer it in to mine when she moved out. Which they said they would. Then i recieve a letter stating i have no licence at all because in fact they canceled the one i had. I took out a new licence only to find out i was actually now paying twice as the old licence was now in my name. Am awaiting a refund!
They don't use radarman anymore, bit like the car tax they just bill ever address with out a license.
