I still haven't got compensation from a hotel and cancelled flight from Easyjet from about 5 years ago! Ho hum.

Surprised at Ryanair getting the thumbs up, but interesting news.
Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?

I'm very thankful I never managed to get on the plane in the first place, but we'll wait and see whether I get a full refund. I wonder if it'll be both ways. Just got an email today to say that my flights for the 15/4 and 22/4 are confirmed. Interesting as I applied for the refund and one of the flights was cancelled on the 15th. The other I can hardly take as I never arrived in the first place! Hmmm. Might turn into a thumbs down unless I see that cash in my bank. Mind you one of the payments for the baby seats which I paid extra for on the morning of the 15th was taken out on the 19th. I really feel for the people who were stranded without accommodation being paid for etc. It is the law isn't it that the airlines are supposed to cough up? Or do we just ignore the law of the land when it doesn't suit our personal circumstances? Personally, I'm boycotting holidays for a few years at least as I've had enough of the hassle, besides it'll save me a lot of money.

Well it seems Mick O'Leary is going to do that.

Well Ryanair - only half of my airfare refunded, so a big thumbs down for you! BUT I'll be sure never to fly with you again.

I really have to condense this down as I 'could' go on for ages about our appalling treatment by Ryanair recently! We (my husband and I, my daughter and her friend) flew out t o Gran Canaria on 12/04 for 1 week. We certainly did NOT pay a £10 or even £40 flight...almost £200 each ,in fact...not that that should be relevent to morals and indeed law ! We go there every Easter and this is the 1st AND last time we fly Ryanair! It has always been our Easter treat...we save for it ,budget for it and ensure we enjoy our week, eating out every night to give me a break from the usual cooking etc. My husband is self-employed too which means when we are away, it costs twice as no money is coming in then or any hols pay.
Yes,we had full travel Insurance.Yes ,we always allow a margin for a little emergency...but we got stuck with no end in sight as Ryanair act dispicably when a crisis arrives ! They will do nothing at all up untill a flight is cancelled..in our case, although British airspace was closed already, 4 hours before our flight ! Then you cannot get hold of them and you must view the website to either cancel your flight(which releases them of ALL liability of you-as informed by our Foreign Office and instructed NOT to do !) or source your own flight home as Ryanair make no effort at all to get you on the next available plane!!! A 30 minute call to England(as they have no contact office at all on hols) resulted in us being told that we ''would not get a flight home before the 1st of May !!!! It was then 19th April ! I had one dependent son at home minding 2 large dogs, my s/emp husband was due to return to work to get money flowing in again and carry out contractual obligations and quite honestly, our money had run out !
Calls to our Foreign Office were made (at great cost) and we were told that our carrier MUST 'by law' get us home and look after us in the meantime and they found it hard to believe that was not happening! It only became apparent a few days later, on International Sky news that Ryanair were treating all their passengers this way when they admitted it proudly to all and sundry ! They did NOT offer us a flight home..that is for the passenger to sort themselves (it took us a and people at home 2 days and alot of stress to do) and then another airline was the earliest flight back....one week later !..and extra/hugely inflated cost(£800 one-way for 4-now off season !) We booked into a cheaper hotel for 6 days but that included half-board, so we would at least get some food for our money! There was so much other expense and so much anxiety caused and Ryanair were full of apathy and dishonour.
Other people 'were' being kept up-to-date of flights home etc by their carriers and were moved as soon as their own hols had finished to AI hotels so time And money was kept to a minimum to them.
All I can say is our credit card is normally only used minimally but has certainly been a life-saver for us whilst stranded abroad. Flights home, our food, drinks and accomodation have had to go on it for an extra week and Ryanair did not and do not give a monkeys !! We are not seeking any other compensation but they washed their greedy little hands of ANY duty of care to their passengers ! We , as a family are approx £1700 in debt due to this extended non-holiday and that does not include loss of earnings etc. Efforts to get us on the earleist poss flight home at least would have been nice from Ryanair , but nothing....at all ! Just apathy and arrogance !
