Comet Extended Warranty/ Insurance

  • I am also having issues with Comets extended warranty.

I have a Toshiba HDTV that I purchased from Comet just short of 3 years ago, I took out at a small fortune there extended warranty and had not had a problem until a few weeks ago when my TV stopped working.

I called there repair department and told them of the problem and I was told it would take them 2 weeks to send out an engineer to repair the tv. I was not best impressed as it was in the middle of the school holidays and I asked if I could take it down to my local store, which I was told was not an option.

I was then given a date of 9/9/11 for the engineer to come out and was told it would be repaired today as they have ordered what they believed to be the part they would need.

So I took today of work reluctantly as I am selfemployed and would mean I have lost £180 due to being given and 8-6 call out time. only for the engineer to come with the wrong part and was unable to repair the fault.:T

This is now once again going to take another 2 weeks to order the part and book another call out, meaning I have to take yet another day off work again losing out on an income I should not have to miss out on. I am fuming and feel like banging my head against a wall.

Is there anything I can do to speed up the process of them sorting out the repair?, is there anything I can do to get them to reimburse my loss of earnings due to being messed about in regards to having to wait in yet again?.

could I not just take the set down to my local store and demand a replacement due to the time it has taken and the inconveneance of having to wait 4 weeks?

Or do I just have to put up with it and accept there mistake and apology?.
  • Nearly 5 weeks on after my tv stopped working and I am still waiting for them to contact me to fix it.

Can somone please tell me where I stand in terms of how long I am expected to wait before they either fix it or replace it?.
  • I bought a Hotpoint Aquarius 14mths ago and paid £80odd pounds for an extra 2 year Warranty. Last week the spinner failed to worlk.
Rang Sunday 6th and after being held on hold for 20mins at a cost of 10p per min I was told to run the washer empty of clothes because the previous wash must have been unbalanced.???? Well I did this at further expense, ie, I'm on a water meter and seconly, the cost of electric to run a 3rd wash to see if the silly idea worked. IT DIDN'T. Monday the 7th I again rang Comet again being kept on hold listening to a message, "sorry for delay your custom is valuable to us" course it is when I'm paying 10p per minute. At this stage I reckon it had cost me £4 in calls, electric, water and my time. They then told me they could come next Monday the 14rh Nov between 12 and 6pm, so now they cost me my time.
I complained and a Manager rang me back 3.30pm 8th Nov. I reiterated the above and said if a major thing like the spinner goes at such a young age then, if it happens again, I want a replacement having paid a few hundred £s for something that obviously is faulty. He said "We don't replace items our warranty only repairs" Load of rubbish, The Initially 1 year Warranty covers repair and return and the sum paid to extend the Warranty works in exactly the same way,
Under trading standard I know, if this fault occurs again, then I am within my right to demand a new washing machine. Comet sold the item, Comet sold the Two extra year Warranty they are one and the same Company and we the people who keep this Company afloat by patronising the Company are being hoodwinked. I am going to stand up for my rights, anyone else out there suffered from this terrible service. I would be delighted to hear from you:T
  • Yes, My automatic washer failed to spin clothes after only 14 mths. I find their Warranty is not what we think we paid for it is what commet don't want to fulfil. Their service is terrible. I will be taking legal action if it breaks after a repair as I shall take action thru Consumer protection. They say under terms of Warranty they repair they don't replace. Load of rubbish, if their goods are fauty goods having paid over a certain amount, then we are legally within our right to get a replacement

Wrong. If the item had been faulty from new, then they may well have replaced it (although legally they could still have attempted to repair it). However after 14 months the item was clearly working OK for some time, getting a replacement/refund is highly unlikley and not a legal right.
