what a bunch of arrogant idiots this company are, i just used the search function for comet and sale of goods act and there are pages of complaints, i am trying to get a refund on my useless vax hoover that is still in warranty after one replacement and no less than 3 seperate part replacements in less than a year, are they aware of the sale of goods act? the excuse now is that as its not a mechanical fault and the parts replaced have been hoses and pipes they have no obligation under the sale fo goods act as the parts are counted as accessories!!!!! !!!!!!, how can a vaccum cleaner that spends more of its time awaiting parts be "fit for purpose" if i cant use it to vaccum with!!!!! there head office address is in rickmansworth , tomorrow i will drive up there and put their useless plastic turd through their window, i have never dealt with such arrogant idiots in my 41 years on this planet and will make sure that nobody i know ever spends a solitary penny with them

It may help if you calm down and explain the situation from the start, that way you may get some advice or are you just posting for the sake of a rant.

    Vax......lol Jokers.

Our vacuum has had 4 repairs by Vax themselves, and still not functioning properly. They have now told me if I send it to them again I will get charged £44 for time wasting, as they cant find a fault with the vacuum.

Reason I bought this model was because my parents had it and theirs works perfectly / brilliantly. But ours it terrible.

Tried taking it back to argos, where I bought it from, but they wont accept it back as its been repaired by vax.

Which is fair enough as your contract is with Argos not the manufacturer and you should have gone back to them in the first instance

lol, i am just ranting, i know the sale of goods act, but for some reason comet doesn't think it applies to them, i am just astonished at how badly they treat customers and that they think their internal policies are above the law, or maybe they are just ignorant, they believe that by lying to people they have the upper hand, although the vax hoover is plastic junk they have not been the issue here, i spent 20 years repairing domestic appliances but some little bint called Beccy at comet seems to think that as it has been the hose and pipe that broke they are accessories and therefore the sale of goods act does not apply!!!!, stupid girl should go back to hairdressing or something, she couldnt get her head around the fact that a vaccum cleaner which i cannot vaccum with as it keeps breaking is not fit for purpose!! all this over an £80 hoover that is still under a year old!!, i cant be bothered with going through court proceedings for an £80 vaccum cleaner, i shall throw it in the rubbbish and Never buy anything from comet again , shame as i have spent many thousands of pounds there over the years, i am sure refunding the paltry sum concerned in order to ensure future business would have damaged the multi million pound company immensley, hopefully this rant along with the many others on this forum regarding these lying thieves will persuade some readers to put there money elsewhere, rant over, thanks for reading!

I had similar problems with Comet with a camcorder. It was returned for repair, spent 6 weeks being repaired then just a couple of months outside the 1 year warranty it packed up altogether. Thought I had a case under the SOGA, after all you would expect a £450 camcorder to last more than a year! The Comet manager would do nothing, just said take us to court if you want.

Wouldn't dream of buying anything from Comet ever again

it beggars belief that a company as old and big as they are would treat all their customers with such little respect, maybe they are on the verge of bankrupsy and dont have the money to give back, or their policy is "comet are always right, the customer is never right", it even states on the reciept that they will replace or refund on faulty goods that are under 1 year old, but they wouldnt discuss that when i phoned them, it probably wasn't in the script they all have to read from!

    Hi kaya,

My name’s Matt and I’m from comet.

I was sorry to note the problems that you have been experiencing with your VAX vacuum cleaner. It was also disappointing to hear that the advice you were previously given was unhelpful.

Comet would always comply with the Sale of Goods Act no matter what the product, however, I am unable to comment on the situation at this moment in time due to the limited information I have at this stage. You have mentioned that this is now the 3rd time parts have been replaced therefore, I would like to look into this further for you if you would please email me direct via the link below with the purchase information and any job reference number that you may have so that I can investigate this matter further for you.

    Thanks

I don't work for Comet but just thought I'd share my experience with you in the interests of balance and fairness.

I bought a dishwasher from Comet and the motor caught fire after 2 weeks. I rang them and they sent an engineer out the next day and he replaced the motor. Shortly after that, other parts began failing and again the engineer came out, replaced parts and advised me to ask Comet if I could swap it. I rang Customer Services, explained what the engineer had said and they apologised and told me to go to my local branch and choose a new dishwasher of equal value and they'd instruct the branch manager to arrange a pick up and delivery.

I went to the branch, chose a more expensive model (and paid the difference) and the manager arranged a pickup and delivery of the new one as promised. Customer Services rang the day after delivery to make sure it was all sorted to my satisfaction.

I've continued to buy from Comet and have never found them difficult to deal with when things go wrong.
