Bush identification and lawn help
Hi All,
Hopefully my attempt at linking to pictures will work. Firstly I'm looking to identify this bush in my garden. It came out with lovely white flowers about 2-3 weeks ago, and now its growing new red shoots which look amazing! - anyone know what it is?
Secdondly on my scratty lawn I had dark clumps of leaves coming up which I thought may be bluebells. I left them rather than cut them, but nothing happened, they haven't grown anymore and no sign of flower shoots... again anyone any ideas please?
Thanks in advance
Fi

The bush is Peris Japonica. It looks lovely by the way."To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill" Sun Tzu0

A pieris.
The bulbs...look like tulips atm. I guess you'll know when they flower?import this0 -
i was going to say forest flame, cos that is one of the few plants that i have in the garden that i haven't killed yet.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Oh, the tulips are behind the ones you're talking about?
Maybe lily of the valley, then?import this0 -
Ah thanks for the bush idenitification. Have Googled it, what a great shrub!
The tulips are the ones I planted, but between then and the pansies on the lawn there are tufts of thick green leaves, that initially looked like they might be bluebells, but the other bluebells in my garden have grown much bigger and now have flower buds.
I'm kinda wondering should I mow the lawn now or leave it to see if these tufty bits turn out to be?
Cheers0 -
I've got them in my lawn too and have no idea what they are. Will ask my mum when she comes tomorrow, she's good at that kind of thing.
Is it a new garden/house? We moved into our house in december and its really exciting seeing all the bare bushes come to life. So far we have a lovely pink camellia, honeysuckle, some kind of purple/white stellar magnolia which looks stunning, and some buddleia. lots of other things too still to be identified, one I think might be a judas tree after watching gardeners world last week, quite excited about that if it is!0 -
I think the leaves in the lawn could be grape hyacinth. Sorry, can't think of the Latin name.0

Ive got the same thing in my front garden, however i also have tulips and lovely grape hyacinths too, and those leaves arent grape hyacinths! Theyre just clumps of leaves with no sign of anything flowery!0

No, but it's only April don't forget.
However if you have grape hyacinth (I don't like them so tend to pull out any that escape from next door as soon as I see them) and don't recognise them then I'm sure you're right.
They could just be a coarse grass I suppose.0 -
I dont think its grass either, its deffo something that should have something flowery on it, but Ive not seen anything yet on the stuff Ive got and the grape hyacinths are all in bloom. Hmmmm0
